Thats the the great thing about being a footy fan, one minute pissed off then it all starts again and that buzz comes back.
Good thing, thanks goes to DJ for what he did do while here, a shame he couldn't get us over that final hurdle. All the best to him for the future.

I am surprised he was sacked, I really thought if he was going to leave he would resign.

Very sad news. Expectations were way too high last year. Yes, we had Bellamy but it was a Bellamy recovering from a serious knee issue who didn't find true form until April. Our squad wasn't good enough for automatic promotion and we also suffered from terrible injury problems with Bellamy, Bothroyd, Chopra, OLI, Hudson and SuperKev missing multiple games. To finish on the same points as the Swansea side who got a terrific victory today is a great achievement.
It can be saved with a good choice now, but Jones was the man for the job of rebuilding the team next season.

Very generous MJ. Frankly, and I speak as a supporter of his, I think he had to go. THe squad was easily good enough but he made some dreadful man management decisions. His treatment of Adam Matthews (however the young un behaved) was despicable compared with his bizarre and inexplicable loyalty to Lee Naylor, a player whose form affected the whole team for six or seven matches. During this time Naylor to be having a public nervous breakdown. His inability to convince Alex Ferguson that we needed Drinkwater despite having Ramsey, his increasingly chippy post match comments, his choosing of Baywater ahead of a Premier keeper (Brown), his paranoiaregarding media Wales. . . the list goes on. And Bellamy was actually far better throughout the season than you give him credit for - he was simply played in the wrong place. BY whom? DJ, that's who.
I do hope however, that they chose wisely and that they do throw some money at it this time. Everyone says that they threw money at it last season - but did they? NOt really. Took the words out of my mouth, I would however add that his tactics at times have been very questionable and his use of subs have at times been frankly awful.
According to Bellamy the whole of our defence was shocking (which it was). I have a feeling that Bellamy was a major influence into the departure of DJ and we now wait to see what happens next, my guess is that Bellamy will be involved in some way, either player or player coach and i would think a good man manager (younger guy) is the answer, Hughton for me, and i could see Bellamy working alongside him. But let the rumours begin. By the way. Well done to the Jacks for yesterday. Cant decide whether or not i am Jealous, wierd.
I was a Jones fan but in reality he's had the team to do it and failed so yes I believe it was right to let him go.
My wish is for someone with balls that takes no **** from players who think they're better than they are and someone who wants to play football as it should be, no one from the Allardyce academy.

Dave Jones departure could be a good move by the club.........it could be also be a monumental error
There are simple choices to make now, seek to progress and replace the jacks in the PL in may next year, or cut costs and get sucked into the mediocrity that is championship mid-table anonimity.
My hope is that the owners say go again....and go a for a manager who can and will demand the respect of our players. Familiarity breeds contempt as we witnessed with squad players hitting the town a couple of days before the Middlesboro debacle. DJ done some sterling work for us over the years, keeping us afloat by moving players on for stupid bucks - Gunter being a prime example.
We need another quality person at the helm now, thus ruling out Craig Bellamy. Plenty of decent guys are available too. O'Neill may be expensive but he'd fit the bill, and do the job brilliantly. Warnock may soon be free too. I hear mention of Zola / Di Matteo - we can Dream. Chris Hughton, not exactly Mr Charisma, but a cracking football brain. Poyet, would be a good shout too. One thing is vital, a new broom , new ideas, new approach, and the ability to attract committed professional players to the cause. The single most important thing the board need to recognise that playing second fiddle to the council tenants down he M4 is not an accetable staus quo
for the fans.
With Bothroyd & Burke seemingly on their way, Chopra allegedly chatting to Ipswich, CB back at Man City for the time being, and the other loanees back at their parent clubs we have a lot of work to do. At least we have Gerrard back from Hull, perhaps DJ's biggest misjudgment last season was letting him go on loan, or bringing in the utterly inept Jlloyd Samuel.
The board now have take the opportunity to put their stamp on the club and show their true colours - let's hope they follow up the
promise of being here "for the long term" with positive action.

Delighted he's gone. 6 years of failure under him. We are the longest serving club in the Championship. That is NOT something to be proud of. Over half this division have tasted Prem football in the last 10 years. DJ has had money thrown at him (He's signed well over 50 players in 6 years) and produced nothing. GOOD RIDDANCE.

I take your point Gruff but on the flip side he was also a manager who lost all 3. We, as supporters grew increasingly divided over DJ and, if rumours are to be believed, he'd lost the respect of the dressing room too so his leaving/sacking was inevitable imo.
With equal backing from the board, as was announced today, a fresh face with some new ideas could be just what we need. I've nothing against DJ personally and wish him well but he's gone now so time to move on. Whether we challenge again next year remains to be seen but I for one am looking forward to a fresh start.
Bit harsh that PF. If he had got us up we would all be singing a different tune. He didn't so it was time for him to go. Your points are all relevant but he did achieve more for us than any other manager since Scoular. I wouldn't say good riddance, more like "you did your best, it didn't turn out to be enough so good luck to you elsewhere".

New thinking and tactics are needed as football has moved on (Norwich and Swansea being good examples of that). Most of us feel DJ had his chance, didn't take it so we need someone new. Surely Norwich did something similar without giving Gunn any time at all and look how things turned out for you with Lambert.
