Watford
Hello Pompey fans,

I support Watford and according to the Sky Sports Transfer Centre we are close to completing the signing of Hogg. I was wondering if you could tell me what you thought about him, a good signing etc?

According to wikipedia he is a centre mid, would you say he is more attacking minded or more of a holding player?

Cheers, and good luck for the season (except for then 19th of November and the 2nd of January)

Hi Ryan,

Hogg is a defensive minded midfielder gets round the pitch and loves a tackle. He started off well for us last season but then his performances tailed off a bit but could be a decent signing for you with a years experience under his belt. Best of luck for the season except against us! :D

Loves to get stuck in, not the biggest player but he's got a good tackle in him. Will develop into a strong, commanding central midfielder IMO. Watford seem to have a good record with younger players, so this is a good deal for all concerned I think <ok>

Sounds preferable to Jenkins. But if Dyche thinks that two defensive midfielders is the way to go in a 4-4-2, the problem does not entirely lie with the players.

Best of luck this season Pompey. <ok>

P.S. We will gratefully accept our new year's points in the post this year, no need for a second consecutive wasted trip. ;)

Hi Did start off ok, and like the others said - he's defensive minded.

Loves a tackle but in my book thats about it. His ball distribution isnt all that and he's quite slow on the break (not in terms of running but playing a quick/intelligant pass)

He also is really short and looks like he should still be at school but credit to him - that doesnt stop him winning 50/50's.

good luck, hope he does well.

So he is basically a replacement or back up for Eustace. Not the type of signing we wanted given that we already have 2/3 of the same player. However, if he is better than Jenkins i will raise my hat to the guy and welcome him with open arms!!

On the evidence of today more mobile than Jenkins and a better distributer of the ball too. Prone to the occasional rash tackle but good positional sense and not easily drawn out of position. Paul Scholes he's not...but few Championship sides can afford outstandingly creative midfielders these days.

One or two comments that I have seen suggest that Villa fans were surprised to see him go, and thought that he was a good squad player if not a regular first pick player. A couple of times in commentary he was picked out as linking well with players who he still didn't know what their names were.

I have to say i like this guy!! he seems to move 100 times more than RJ, and seems to be 10 times stronger too!! He made several important tackles, and did not deserve his booking!! just some silly refereeing. I think Ref got bored and wanted something to put in his notes.
