I think it also stems from just pure burnout, he's the one player who starts every game, never gets subbed, very rarely is he injured either. I think once we get a few players back he needs a month on the bench just purely to give the bloke a rest. I'd be surprised if he's missed more than 5 games for us in the last 3 years, and in that time he's also gone to a world cup.

I think it could be partly this too. Particularly last season when towards the end he raised his workrate again. Sometimes you can go back to the well too many times. Some complete rest would do him good. I felt the same about Cabaye. It was no surprise him and Jonas started to pick up injuries.
