What bare your thoughts about the competition.

It's a chance for a morale boosting run and a possible trip to Wembley.

On the other hand, it means more fixtures and therefore more chances of injuries and disciplinary points mounting up.


So which camp are you in?

A run in the prestigious Paint Pot Trophy cannot be brushed over Devo, and we should continue to put the welcome matt out for visiting teams in the hope we can add a glossy new trophy to our cabinet.

Obviously, if we were to suffer a few injuries, we would not be able to sand paper over the cracks, but could at least show a fighting (white) spirit on the pitch.

You type with a silk tongue Woopert. Perhaps if we reach the final we could release a single - on vinyl of course.
If we get to Wembley will you be traveling there in a Roller perhaps?
Maybe you could pop into London a buy a new frock for the missus, some-thing in Satin - wood probably suit her.
If you travel by train book a seat in the no complaining carriage - aka the Non-Drip carriage.

One things for sure. If we win we wont be painting the town RED!

I'd love us to reach the final- and I think we could make it. We'll (I hope) get past Wycombe next round .. so who knows ??

Let's not whitewash over the cracks- it's still a tin pot trophy. Let's just concentrate on the major honours our club is famed for.

Speaking of glossing fratton, are you hoping for some vinyl silky skills or maybe a Matt finish? Neither is much of a possibility with you're current lot!

I think that Appleton will use the possibility of additional matches to your advantage. The failings of Portsmouth this season are all attributable to the fact that the squad was assembled too hastily due to the obvios restrictions. Portsmouth need to ensure that the team plays as many matches as possible and gets in the habit of winning. The last two results are suggestive that this is beginning to happen and I think that this competition will be to your advantage - if you get to Wembley then it will be another advantage. In Saint's case, it was very much a return to fortunes for us and there is no reason why, as one of the biggest clubs in the lower league, Portmouth should not be expecting to progress. I think by treating this competition lightly, you may find it is a wasted opportunity and the club should take the JPT seriously in my opinion.

This is like the whole "Europa League" discussion- all the teams in England think they are "too big" for the tournament, and end up playing youth and reserve players in the tournament.

It's a European cup competition- so why not take it seriously ??

I know the Paint Trophy is no European competition, but it's a tournament- we're still in it, and then there's the possibility of playing at Wembley!

The JPT was very important to Saints in L1 because Pardew believed that we needed to get what he called a "winning mentality" back in the club. The League has to be a priority but when you find yourself three or four games from a Wembley final, well it has to be worth a punt.

I totally agree and I would hazard a guess and say that most of the fans would not want to gloss over the chance of a trip to Wembley.
