Over 45,000 REPORTED cases in one year alone the vast majority of cases are not reported, if we say one in twenty is reported ( Highly unlikely ) we have some very very frightening figures, if this thread is not Sunderland Footballer related then Newcastle supporters are going to be kept very busy

Agreed. But I still think 6 years is overkill, primarily due to public pressure.

However, I'm all willing to accept it, as long as you all would support a 6 year sentence for a female having sex with a 15 year old boy.

 

I'm sorry, but we cannot just have this black and white view of the situation.

You need to take every case of murder, rape and sexual abuse individually.

Unfortunately, I am accused of trivialising sexual abuse cases because of this.

Are all cases of rape, murder and sexual abuse wrong? YES. But are they equally wrong? No.

Do I think having sex with a 15 year old girl when you're 27 is wrong? It's illegal and you should respect the age of consent, and you should be punished for it. Absolutely.

But do I think it's a terrible crime? Not really.

You've got developed, 1st world, western nations ranging from countries in Europe to America, who cannot agree on the age of consent. It ranges from 15-18.

If I go to places in Europe, sex with 15 year olds is considered fine. In America, certain places would consider me a horrible pervert for having sex with a 17 year old!

 

Stick to the law and you'll stay out of jail. Simple. It's not open to interpretation that's why when you pork a bird under 16, whether she's shagged 1000 blokes or she's a virgin, you're signing the sex offenders register.

I will not adjust my morals at all. I never said that what he did was fine and I don't care, I simply believe that 6 years for poking a willing 15 year old is a bit harsh.

However, as long as a woman would get the same punishment, I'd be happy with the fact that there's no double standard there.

 

Well you brought up the point of each case being judged on its individual merits.

How much of his sentence are you apportioning to his crime and how much of it do you think he got for behaving like a complete prat, trying to lie his way out of it by pleading not guilty and his complete lack of remorse?

I believe he'd have been given a much more lenient punishment if he was honest with everybody from the start and never dragged his poor victim through hell to try and con his way out of it.

It's not harsh at all.
