As long as Liverpool don't allow to happen what Islington Council allowed to happen when Highbury was demolished.Arsenal own apartments that are now where the old Highbury once stood, only they can't sell them. I reckon once ''New Anfield'' is built Liverpool should sell the site to the council and insist that affordable housing be built in its place.
Building a new stadium is already at the price of the local community when its being built on the "public" park no? This is why Liverpool as a club must ensure that to compensate for this they work hard to improve the areas around the stadium. Whilst I appreciate your argument about Anfield of old in those days the club wasn't awash with cash as it has been for the past decade and a half and thus my argument about how little they`ve contributed recently to the area around the ground I think still holds weight. Its not a question of being on my soap box (ok maybe it is a bit haha) merely a reality check that people on here talk about deals for a stadium deal worth hundreds of millions of pounds etc without the slightest consideration for mentioning what the clubs responsibilities should be r.e. the people who live in the area.
Don't just point the finger at Liverpool. How much have Arsenal contributed to the old Highbury area when they built the Emirates, they are still trying to sell apartments where the old stadium existed. They can't, as they are too expensive.Liverpool when they sell the existing site should insist that they build affordable housing where the current stadium once was.
Sorry mate I'm only pointing the finger at Liverpool because I'm a red and I was born bred raised here blah blah blah so what Arsenal have done (and you're spot on about it) is not my concern. Was just a bit of food for thought for those who talk telephone numbers of money that in my opinion it'd be nice if some of that trickled out to the community and not just into the players wage packets Hopefully in the new era of what we all hope is proper leadership at the club this will be addressed properly and we will end up either with a brand spanking new Anfield or if not we get a fabulous state of the art beauty that will make us all proud. See I can be optimistic as well
