Looking at the England Goalkeeping situation, what chance of a call up next season for Ruddy?

If we look at it, there's a general lack of English goalkeepers playing week in week out in the top flight. Foster is taking a break from internationals, Robinson has retired, Green has made some noises in that direction too (though he seems to have come around). I don't think Carson is any better than Ruddy, so it really could be a possibility, couldn't it?

Of course there's a long way to go yet, we don't know how he'll adapt to the top flight, and I'm sure another exprienced keeper will come in to Carrow Road.
However, if he plays regularly, he'd have to be in with a decent shout.

What do you think?
 
Again, he wasn't at his best yesterday, but I think Hart's going to develop into a top quality keeper. When you think how young he still is (especially in GK terms), he's only going to get better.

The problem for Camp and Loach is that Championship tag, isn't it? With the Euro's at the end of the season, I think they'll need to be playing top flight football to get in the squad.
Not sure if Westwood's English, is he?
 
That's another two to cross off then. I suppose we have to remember Stockdale, but again, he's not likely to be playing much in the Prem.
It's amazing, isn't it, that England should have problems selecting more than a handful of eligible top flight 'keepers?
 
Was Hart really at fault for either goals??? The wall was terrible for the second and his positioning was correct - if the wall did its job he wouldn't have had to scramble across. He cant cover the whole goal.

And for the first - yet again the defender missed the header. If he had managed to get a hand to that it would have been a stunning save. His positioning again wasn't that bad.

England goalies have made some bad errors but I'm not convinced his were that bad. Yet again the tabloids see it as productive to crucify him though
 
As a former GK of a reasonable standard, I have to tell you the first goal was very soft, the second was a defensive wall error, but Hart should have gone with his hand, not his foot, it would have been difficult, but by going foot first, it was impossible!
 
To be fair, both goals were pretty freaky. The first I'd say Hart had long enough to set himself a little better though, and the second, Milner was clearly at fault, but we all know about 'keepers not being beaten at the near post. Probably harsh, but I'm sure he'd feel himself he could have done better. Easily Englands No. 1, though, and by a long way.

Stockdale is at Fulham, but behind Schwarzer he's not likely to see much action. Fair chance Schwarzer could move though, so we'll see.
 
Ruddy has had a real hard time since coming here and although he won people over toward the end I swear a big amount of city fans, the instant we got promoted, were either saying "get Fraser back" or "get greeno back"

Ruddy is good enough in My opinion, we should get another senior keeper and loan out dec and jed if we can, develop that talent because we are blessed with two fantastic young keepers.
 
Thank you, Beefy, I've been trying to stay away from this post, I'm sure everyone knows my views on John Ruddy! All of you spouting about Rob Green, apart from the fact that he turned traitor when we were relegated, just look how many goals he has conceded in the last season, not saying he's a bad keeper, but even a good keeper lets in lots of goals when his defenders go missing. Ruddy is an excellent keeper, we just need a back-up!
 
Good point about our younger keepers. They both need to be loaned out to league 1/2 to get some experience and see how they cope. At the moment they're fairly unknown quantities. I'd hope that we can really get them to the peak of their potential, either giving us 2 great keepers to compete for the position in a few years, or a tidy profit from selling one of them on.
 
I'm pretty sure we'll carry three 'keepers through the season, with the most likely outcome being Steer going out on loan.
We're going to have to bring in another experienced 'keeper, simply because it's too much of a gamble to go in to the season with two young inexperenced back ups to Ruddy. So with Ruddy and an as yet unsigned 'keeper, it's between Rudd and Steer for that third spot. It's got to go to Rudd really, hasn't it?

On the subject of someone coming in, what about Hanneman? Not who we'd go for as a number 1 maybe, but experienced and free.
 
I think Ruddy is good enough for the job. He's only going to get better too. I would sign someone of the Maik Taylor/Hahnemann mould as back up on a 1 yr deal, plus Rudd and Steer can gain vital games out on loan.
