Do you think he's missed the point there? I'm still of the belief that, had we played last season in a similar manner to the year before, Grant Holt would have got a similar amount of goals. It was the style and delivery that was perhaps missing, not the manner of finishing. Holt got about one chance a game last season; that doesn't seem to have changed for RVW this.

all subjective but my thoughts long before last season even started was that if we carried on playing the way we had the first season we stayed up, we'd go down because we surprised a lot of teams and that 'surprise factor' had disappeared. there were many threads where i said that at the time and i was of the opinion we needed to tighten up to stand a chance. that's what hughton felt too. obviously the more chances you give a striker the more goals he will probably score but there were a few signs that holty was slightly in decline last season so i think his return of 8 goals was perfectly respectable given the service (or lack of it). had we been more adventurous he may have got another four or five maybe, who knows! rvw could easily have scored twice last weekend - funny how people forget that. on another day danny rose wouldn't have got back and he'd have got us right back into the game. you don't get many chances in the premier league - even in our first season we weren't blitzing teams with chances - holt would maybe get three chances a game rather than one. rvw is an improvement on holt, no question, so you could argue he probably only needs two chances to get one goal more often than not. we'll get better as the season grows older and the midfield get a little wiser to the movement ahead of them. its a totally different movement to what they are used to! we are more used to aerial threat up front

Another good point. We'll get nowhere pumping the ball up to van Wolfswinkel as has been the case in our first two home games, and that is Hughton's fault. Play it to his feet and he'll flourish, I'm sure of it.

many fans called for a change in style, yet when a change is in its early infancy and doesn't miraculously click immediately, they want changes again. honestly, hughton can't win with some fans!

I hope that's not a dig at me, because I've done nothing but support Hughton from the start. If he left now, for whatever reason, it'd be a disaster. All I'm saying is stop playing the ball in the air to van Wolfswinkel...

He could always try playing wide men on their natural sides, rather than 'inverted'. Whoever we face, the fullbacks largely know what they'll be dealing with from (so far) Snoddy and Redmond. Or at least switch them over during the course of a game just to try and create a little more penetration?

We did do that with Bennett and Redmond against Everton. Both of them actually played very well.

yes, i think they need to interchange more often. it would instantly add an extra dimension to our team and give the full backs something to ponder. i do like inverted wingers though, got no problem with them being used in the main like that. if anything, they should be more likely to pick out a pass to rvw/midfield runner than produce a quality cross every time
