Random Wikipedia scrolling led me to this guy. From Consett.

Previous SAFC academy coach who emigrated to NZ and has worked his way up thru the womens game to be Canada mens manager - and has helped take their world ranking up from like 100 in the world to 33. And qualified for their first World Cup.

I know nowt about him other than this. Do any of you more local north east guys know more about him?

Aye, moved over there very young and iirc one of his parents was American. I read half of his autobiography years ago. Found it quite boring and never went back to it.

Yeah I’ve read it to a point but it’s not exactly “rock and roll” that you’d hope

That was exactly it mate. Apart from the overdose of his mate, which he couldn't skim over he didn't seem to talk about anything.

I tried reading it when it was first out about 15 year ago so may be making even worse, as far as I can remember it was very much did a tour of this place on this date then went to this pace on this date with a sprinkle of Axl did this every now and again!

Yeah. I’d hoped for dirt on Axl, Duff or Izzy but there was nothing of any note. But like me writing about my musical times! “Went to steels Club and the guitarist played a solo” although I’d dish the duet on my previous guitar partner no end!!!

Mate of mine met him a few years ago while he was in America. Got on about "Back Home", was on about Stoke etc.

Sunderland connection ? In a house in Ashbrooke one afternoon doing some repairs, when the phone rang and after a long conversation in which notes were taken, the occupant, put the phone down and turned to me beaming and said it was Slash at the other end, and that her son was writing about him, bemused I felt it was not my place to say who ?, obviously this was before I , I mean, Slash became famous <laugh> .
