The time excuse isn't the ONLY reason though is it. It's only part of it but a very valid part. We don't want to be held to ransom by a player who no one is offering market value for. Further to that we also don't want to strengthen a rival. Combining those 3 alone is reason enough. The Lescott and Tevez deals obviously weren't direct comparisons but you get my point. I simply like clubs to set a certain standard and stick to it. Players these days hold most of the cards but sometimes clubs have to show they can't get it all their own way just by kicking and screaming. As I said before if they don't like where they are at then don't sign the new contract.
Advertising what? Why do brands spend massive amounts of cash advertising? To sell something possibly? WTF are you 'selling' if you torch a pile of cash by hanging onto Suarez & it back firing? Bury it, as it was total nads
I 100% agree with the sentiment of what you're saying, I hate the power shift that the game has witnessed in the last 15-20 years. But Henry's actions haven't turned that tide mate, neither will they. In this specific case, Suarez still holds the power, but it's now been shifted to his boots........the outcome of whether this is a great decision or otherwise, still ultimately rests with him. That's the sad reality
Therein lies the attitude of a small businessman. Individual transactions never stand on their own. The success or failure of a company lies in the summation of all of their transactions. LFC are not going to make a loss on Suarez - even if he rots all season! The paid less than £24M for him and will easily recover that figure. They have rejected an £40,000,001 offer so that figure no longer has any relevance. It is no longer a valid offer. The ONLY figure that appears on the books and against which any future sale price can be tested is his purchase price. Beat that and LFC make a book profit no matter what you or the silly boys in the media say. Therefore, Henry is on very solid ground. His only gamble is that LFC do not get £24M. If they do then the benefits to the management culture and standing of the club will have been well worth the risk. If you can't think strategically stick to counting beans.
Astro - if you want to see a Chairman acting in a manner befitting of the role, go & view the last Hillsborough memorial service video. Well done for the childish jibe btw, but the fella was an actor love.
I think a club taking a stance against so called player power has been inevitable for some time now. It was going to have to be someone like us, with good but ultimately finite financial resources, for the idea to gain any traction. With Man City for example there's so much money in the set up that it's less meaningful when they have yet another fall out with Balotelli/Tevez as they do have the resources and so can afford to bench players / sell them and buy new players at will / isolate players. I just hope that Henry's words are true and not designed to clear the way for a European power to come in late on and get Suarez and that they pave the way for even a slight sea change in the way business is done at LFC and in PL football. If the clubs can pull back some control over their ambitions and squad it will benefit the game as the PL will become much more competitive. Who wouldn't want to see a league where more than the usually dominant two or three teams have a realistic chance of winning the title? On that note I don't think Real have ever been interested in Suarez simply because there have been no indicators of interest not even scurrilous tabloid rumours or tenuous twitter gossip. With Bale I think we can conclude that there has been/still is decent interest in the player since the story won't disappear.
Don't know what this is supposed to refer to (Henry and Kenwright both spoke well there) but no need to bring Hillsborough into it just because you are on the losing end of a bit of banter
Just a small point Henry isn't our chairman - but points made about his behaviour apply just the same.
IF you believe his statement he had already had two conversations with Arsenal to say no sale then they landed with a bid: rejected with an adjoining not for sale then another bid before the tweet. That's not exactly knee jerk, exasperation maybe. You can say Arsenal were just following the norm but so was Henry from his side. Personal phone calls saying no deal means no deal in his business. He answered disrespect with scorn. I've seen plenty of leaders in various companies & organizations being derisory when the occasion warranted.
I never 'went there' at all, I mentioned Kenwrights fantastic speech as the last memorial. I would never 'go there' either, & anyone who even dares to suggest that I would, can have an invitation to say it to my face. As I'm a scouser you moron, & I knew a lad who eventually died as a result of Hillsborough. Plastic kopites who chuck out comments like that make me want to hurl, an absolute ****ing disgrace. For shame the pair of you, for shame.
Tobes I know your feelings on Hillsborough and you've never 'gone there'. I think just the word is a red rag to a bull. Don't let this turn nasty - anybody.
You used Hillsborough to try make a point, you weren't mocking it but you probably should have avoided using that example It was knee jerk reference because you're getting irritable. I've no doubt if your own came out with the "What are they smoking" you'd be saying it was brilliant, no doubt at all.
Tobes, you are being a bean counter and you know it! £25M turnover is a fairly meaningless figure on its own Tobes What a load of Bollocks Tobes. LFC are not going to go pop over Henry's decision on Suarez.! Sure Henry would be prepared to lose some of the opportunity profit that he may have made on Suarez IF he can point to a better climate in which LFC can do their future business. You really are a dinosaur if you believe that profit maximisation was the only goal for business - the Classical Economists proposed that only to find it didn't work in reality. If Henry does burn cash in the short term you can be sure that he will do so to make even more cash in the longer term. That's why he's a multi-millionaire - he's not myopic
This is getting silly here. Why don't we all cool down and go and have a pint in the appropriate thread? OH OK I'm buying
