Four reasons we've conceded the most Premier League goals ever.
1.) We've been in the Premier league since its inception, so we've had twenty years to concede goals in it
2.) Ian Walker was out first-choice goalkeeper for several season
3.) We've had some bloody awful defenders (Tramezzani, Edinburgh, Austin, Doherty, Gardner)
4.) For the majority of those twenty years, we didn't have a defensive midfielder

As for Bostock, when asked about his time at Wednesday, this is what he had to say about his experience...

I didn't realise we were only talking about the current administration, I was continuing the discussion as someone mentioned Jamie O'Hara and Reto Ziegler being played out of position, they didn't join the club under the current regime. I was saying that if a player is out of position and his attacking is stifled, he won't be any better defensively as 'a' reason for conceding more goals than we should, not the only one. I can see how I put it is a bit misleading now. <ok> I think you could easily have this discussion about Danny Rose, LB or LM? I wonder what he feels is his best position.

I think Rose would just settle for being on the pitch at the moment, Notso.
I think that he's probably best off as a winger though, from what I've seen.
He could be developed into a full-back, but he's not getting enough game time to learn anything.

I'm sure that opposing defenders wouldn't fancy the prospect of facing both Rose and Townsend down the same side, though.
They both have pace and like to run with the ball, both seem to have a decent shot on them and they're happy to go wide and whip the ball into the box, all of which cause serious problems.
Shame that we didn't either play them more often or loan them out to the same side for the season.

Danny Rose's natural position is supposed to be the left sided CM in a midfield of 4, although he rarely plays there. He hasn't the pace to survive at the top level as LW or wide LM, and does look more comfortable at LB, without being outstanding there.

I am disappointed our manager hasn't given him more opportunities this season, because if he had done, we might have more idea where Rose might end up playing.

As for Andros, he is never ever a full back, he's far more effective as a left sided playmaker. He's better going forward than Rose and he's also better at crossing. But he is predictable whereas Danny Rose can mix it more effectively.

But in both their cases, it's a shame they haven't had more playing time this season.

I probably should've clarified that I saw Rose at left-back and Townsend on the wing if they were selected together, SC.

    Is Townsend predictable?
He seems happy to either go down the line or cut inside, when I've seen him.
He's certainly not afraid to try his luck from distance, either.
Hopefully Chris Hughton will help him to push on.

Rose has covered admirably at left back but he's definitely our second best left winger, even when the loanees are back and so should be given more time there.

Getting back to Bostock, I've seen so little to be any judge really, looks like a left footed playmaker to me from what I have seen who's better centrally. A very difficult position for a youngster to get game time at this club, some players need a team building round them, he may well be one of them.

Rose was injured for a lot of the early season, so probably would have seen more of him with Townsend if he had been fit.

    Very annoying timing, HD.
A large number of our back-up players missed a lot of the dismal Europa League campaign through injury.
