On another note who do you think we will drop for Barton?? Faurlin?? Derry?? Cant see him dropping Derry so must be Faurlin.
I think he'll probably rotate the two. Derry will be needed to be the muscle in some games, while Ali will learn from Barton and help with the creativity in going forward.
I'm not sure that Toon fans disgruntled at losing Barton are the best place to go for guidance on this (no offence). And actually in the new era of openess at Loftus Road (the new board are actually encouraging fans input in distinct contrast to the cloak and dagger era of Ecclestone and Briatori) it could be that Barton's tweets are seen as a positive thing rather than cause for discipline.
To be honest, we have no idea what really goes on behind the closed doors of the clubs or the private lives of the footballers, so to judge them is silly. All we can really see is what they do on the pitch. I'm not necessarily defending him but he's an employee with a job to do. Let's see if he can do it.
I appear to be in a very small minority of QPR fans who didn't like Barton when he was stubbing cigars in the eyes of team mates and getting banged up for kicking the colour out of someone outside FatDonalds and still don't like him even though he has joined our club. Most other supporters have taken forgetful pills. I have no doubt that at some stage this season he is going to score a vital or winning goal that will have the Loft chanting his name. He is bound to put in a fantastic display against one of the big clubs and MOTD will be saying he was the man of the match. Regardless of any of this I didn't want him and can only count the days until we see the back of him. Sooner or later he is going to snap someones ankles, probably with the backing of Warnock (I can see his face now "it wasn't a nasty tackle....." as the injured player is carried off with his leg hanging on by his socks) or is going to smack one of our players in the mush. Best thing for him would be to bandage his fingers and thumbs together and stop Twatting, it is only going to lead to more bad press for him which then reflects badly on the club. What do I base this on? Nothing that I've seen up close and personal yet but you don't get his shocking reputation by mistake. "But he's a quality footballer" yeah, yeah, heard that one before. Marlon King anyone? Why not, he's only beaten up a few women and has a cracking right foot. Not In My Name!!!!!!!!!
I don't have Twitter Keep hearing about it on Sky Sports News etc Joey Barton says this, Joey Barton says that He had 1 good season for us - I'm not bitter (Joey on the other hand ) Other seasons have been injury prone, suspended and in prison. Tbh, I never rated him as highly as most. Without him we can play pace on the right side of midfield.
Very good mate. You have the same thoughts as me. Was over the moon when he left You can also have Nile Ranger if you wish
I admit I have my misgivings but now Joey is here I will treat him on what he is like at this Club not his passed, give him my full support and see what the outcome is. Joey has massively change in last the few years with less problems on and off the pitch, it's called maturing, most of us had moments of being a bit of an arse when they were kids (well I know I did), ok joey more than a few and a lot more pubically.
SWP said when joining Rangers (and coming home to London), there'll always be a bit of (light) blue in his heart. I respect players who have an affection and loyalty to clubs or former clubs. Our Tommy Smith showed this when having scored the goal that sealed the Championship for us - against his beloved Watford - he couldn't and didn't go overboard celebrating it. Barton is much the same about Toon. It was coming together for him but Ashley was getting on his wick and he spoke out... that was all. Something and nothing. Ashley's reaction cost him / Toon millions in transfer fees. Not sure I'd forego that type of money just because an employee nauseated / annoyed me... However, whilst SWP and Joey B come to us with fond memories of their previous clubs, it doesn't mean their value and commitment to the Hoops will be any less. They are both significant components in a brand new engine, and pride in their achievements in getting that engine to purr will have its effect on both soon enough. For Barton, its already happening. Warnock's very happy with his positive effect on the training ground. He's the bridge between the originals and incoming players. All good imo (where's Wubba gone?)!
Barton talks ****. He kept on saying how much he cared about our fans then soon as he left he was slagging the club off saying what players he thinks will leave next. He doesn't take the fans into consideration. Hope you lot get used to it as he will 'care' about all of you too
Bit of I remember correctly, he's never said anything bad against the fans - even whe he was leaving, he said on Twitter that he didn't want to go. He'd been put in the position of almost certainly being unemployed next summer with his current club, and if he broke his leg or did his knee ligaments around Christmas time, he'd have a tough job of getting a new contract any where else - so he wanted financial security, which he's now got. Yes, he's got a nasty history, but I hope he takes this as a new blank page. It's what a lot of is are giving him.
Couldn't agree more. Where were you when I was taking on what seemed to be the whole forum in my anti-Barton stance?
Go back and look at that thread again Roller - by the end of it most of us, myself included, were admitting to being hypocrites through disliking Barton but wanting him to do well for us. My attitude is hardening a bit, particularly with Grove's point about the potentially nasty combination of Barton and Warnock ('break his leg' 'ok boss' 'it's just banter'). Now doubtless I will be hammered again for 'disloyalty '. If these guys are spotless role models for my R's supporting kids for as long as they are associated with the club I will be delighted, and I still want to give the benefit, but still on high alert at the moment
I don't know how to feel about him anymore. I didn't want him before he came, but now he's here feel quite relieved. He improves the likelyhood of our survival, and [selfishly] i've probably let that cloud my judgement. I'd certainly feel less morally conflicted if we'd signed Scott Parker!
I have no reservations about him unlike some. His discipline can't be questioned on the pitch and off the pitch he's sorted out his demons. Quite simply the best midfield player of those in the relegation scrap.
SB, I know that you and a few other joined in, but for some time I did feel I was arguing with the whole forum on my own and was struggling to keep up with my defence of my position. Amazing the effect one man can have.
