I am not sure at this age Iniesta is still World Class? Hes getting old and was better when younger.

To me, a World Class player is someone who wouldn't look out of place in the World XI.

Iniesta is definitely world class - we can talk about his technique, but his intelligence, vision is something else.



That's a good definition for midfielders and attackers but less so for defenders and arguably keepers.

Lahm can't change a match but he's still the best full back in the world, and by some distance.

You could say that the best defenders change matches by 'not' doing things, or by preventing others from doing things.

well barton is obviously wrong to exclude a keeper like neuer or can a keeper never be "world class" ? GOt me he is the best by a mile

however after that i would only put lahm in the world class category for defenders as most out there are very good but when i think back to real world class defenders they don't compare.

The definition of World Class isn't too hard to fathom. It's the best players in the world that play at a constantly high level, more than the majority. These players have to include all positions and not just forwards. Just the top of my head, the following players would be regarded as World Class in the Prem at the moment:

Suarez
Yaya
Ozil
Kompany
Ramirez
Silva

This is not the most complete list but an example. The Prem has less World level players than say Spain, which has a larger pool of players.

I had a feeling someone would say that. Ramirez has been Chelsea's best and most consistent performer when he has played. He is also a full Brazilian International and will play for their first 11 for Brazil in this years world cup. He may not be one of the glamour players in the league or world football, but in his position, he is very effective and belongs with the very best. He was outstanding in the Champions League when Chelsea won it last.

'World class' suggests 'can walk into any first team' i.e. Undisputed/Undisputable.

Kompany, Thiago Silva, Zab, Pirlo, Xavi, Toure, Ibra are all good shouts, but not at the Undisputed level atm.

I agree with Barton's argument and that quartet of players.

Would add Neuer, Bale and Silva, but those would still be my picks and could see how they could be disputed (hence not really world class).
