I think it's meant to be an automatic prison sentence if you're a certain amount over the limit now, regardless of whether you hit someone or not. It's always been an option, and does happen, if the courts decide it was serious enough.my thoughts too. It won’t be prison unless he hit someone and it was bad.

I reckon I’ve been over twice in my life. Both times morning after, and didn’t realise until too late. Not an excuse and I’m more careful now, but it’s easily done.

Hardly crime of the century but still a crime. I used, at 16, drink about 4 or 5 pints in a pub (we knew the owner and had to drink upstairs) and then hop on my moped to college. I actually know someone who got ran over and and driver was completely sobre. Imagine how he feels knowing that.
