DPJ, if I recall the complete interview correctly, Laudrup's comment that you quote about Allen was a generalized response to a specific question. I would not take that to suggest that ML wants to sell Allen; it would bean unfair representation of the whole response.

This situation is disturbing on many levels; the possibility of losing Allen, his current output and future potential for a paltry 15 million being one of many. The reasonable present value of his future output far exceeds 15.

For example, BR's misuse and possible disclosure of what in any other business would be considered confidential information subject to nondislosure agreements. If not BR then some other party, possibly internal to the club, may be the disclosing source of Allen's contract. As I have commented on other threads, the key elements of player contracts should be sealed from managers and coaches to prevent the misuse we appear to be witnessing here.

Another example, is the total disregard and disrespect of the player's involvement in the Olympics by some party, possibly Liverpool, conducting this selfserving circus now.

What exactly are the terms of this non-interference agreement?

Also, the Swans' statement today no mention of the content and value of the approach from Liverpool or the other clubs that have made inquires - where do these details come from?

I don't think the club should be disclosing every little fact. Clubs get 100s of enquiries for players and it would be pointless to make these public. The majority of enquiries are just clubs keeping tabs on players, seeing who's available, etc. It doesn't mean they are seriously considering buying.

Regarding the non-interference agreement, I'm sure it can be broken if both clubs agree. Also I'm sure it allows an enquiry if not a bid. So nothing wrong with Rodgers phoning Huw and asking if he'll agree to waive the agreement. Huw can juts say no. But from the speculation it seems that Allen has a release clause and he wants to leave. Could all be wrong of course. But if he wants to leave then we need to get the best price, and that means looking at any offer from Liverpool.

I don't think Allen is worth 15m, so if we get that then it's good. But Huw doesn't have to accept any offer. It is his choice. We can keep Allen and make him play until the end of his contract if he is so important to us. So it's all down to Huw. No-one can buy Allen without Huw's or the board's agreement.

In any case, he's just one player. Have some faith in our board and manager and team. We will improve this season with or without Allen. He's not the be all and end all of our team.

They can buy Allen if they meet the release clause whether Huw likes it or not.

Based on who is saying and the amount of different sources corrobarating it I would say it is a reasonably safe assumption that the clause exists and thats what Huw got so upset about having leaked. The only person who would of leaked that too is Joe's agent as it doesn't help Liverpool or Swansea that info getting out.

Finally, Ian Ayre does transfer negotiations. Brendan has a say and gives his opinion on what he feels the player is worth, but the actual negotiations are handled by Ayre.

I agree I think Laudrup was just giving a generalized response with maybe a bit of inside knowledge that we have had a big bid from Liverpool and Allen could be going because of the £15mil release clause and there wasnt much he could do to stop it.

I also think Allen being part of team GB isnt helping matters as he isnt working with Laudrup (which could be enough to make him want to stay) and is probably having his head turned by the likes of Bellamy.

I also dont like the fact Laudrup isnt seeing how intergral Joe is to the way we play in preseason so has no reason to fight to keep him.

Losing Allen will have a big impact on the way we currently play - although I have a feeling our style will change this season from being slow and patient to much faster and attacking.

YJ: I'm not suggesting that SCFC will struggle to avoid relegation every season. I didn't say that did I? But some fans here have got a rather warped idea of our standing. We are minnows in Premiership terms and always will be. Why? Demographics. We are a small city in a small country. No shame in that is there? We'll never have a 50,000 capacity ground. We'll never be a 'big' club in terms of volume of support. Therefore, clubs like ours will forever be feeder clubs for the big boys, just as other clubs feed us. It's called a footballing food chain and we're high up for sure, but nowhere near the top, and well down the list in Prem terms.

Now that doesn't for a second mean we can't be successful. It doesn't mean we can't aspire to even win the title in the distant future. If you don't want to achieve that then you may as well not bother being in it. We can still be incredibly proud of our Club and the sky's the limit.

My point is that we can aspire to be successful, but it's pointless aspiring to be bigger because we never will be. A canny club (and I think because of HJ's brilliance we're certainly that) can do an awful lot with £15M.

If anywhere near that is offered snap their hands off Huw!

Hasn't this been done to death? How many threads now?

No offence but if it happens it happens. Notice some posters actually saying we should "stop this move" happening. Really? If Allen wants to go are you seriously suggesting we make a player who doesn't want to be here stay? Get real!

Rodgers' underhand approach to this has damaged his and Liverpool's reputation but if Allen want to go, then thanks and bye bye. £10M would do it for me as I'm one of the very few who thinks Allen isn't consistent enough to warrant anything higher but HJ is holding out for £15M. Great. Take it, move on and buy some cheaper foreign talent elsewhere. The Club comes first, and if we continue to be successful we will lose players and managers. If we weren't any good that wouldn't happen.

Get used to it.

Spot on casual. Some don't seem to understand the way things work at all. The trick is to buy better at a cheaper price. No way is Allen worth over £10M in my book and if Liverpool want to pay more, great we'll take it. We have a potentially great manager with an eye for talent on the cheap judging by the business we've done already.

The Club's approach is absolutely right by essentially saying 'We don't want to sell our best players; we don't have to sell anyone really but if the player wants a move then we want maximum dosh'. Spot on. <applause>

But I keep coming back to the player. If you want a player to stay who doesn't want to be with us then you are very foolish. Doesn't help us, the player or team morale. If some had their way we'd let all our players contracts run down and make them stay to the bitter end. No way to do business imo.

If we get the 15 million ,it doesn't nescessarily mean that we spend that amount on a replacement because if that player exists at that price what will his pay demands be ?. If Joe's going for a bigger wage hence any one we may consider at around that figure may have the same aspirations money wise ,which will be on a lot more than our current wage structure.

Who knows where the swans could end up.....playing attractive football, premiership exposure, names like laudrup, etc. As others have said - think small stay small.

I remember asking a one of my fellow swans supporters back when we were in L2 whether the liberty could be expanded beyond 20k. He said why on earth would we ever want more then 20k. I said well over time, and with ambition - if we ever made it to the premiership - it wouldnt be enough. He mocked me like a school boy, saying to wake up, and live in the real world. He said the 'proper' leagues are L2/L1, and the premiership was a load of bollox.

HAHAHAHAHA wonder what he thinks of that statement now - ground no where near enough big enough whilst we are in the prem, Laudrup as manager - bet he is loving it - if not embarrised by that reaction all those years ago.

Nothing to say we cant pick up further support and continue to grow. We have a worldwide audience in the prem, and also all of west wales to draw local support from.

Completely wrong. If you can sell a player for 5m and buy a better player for 3m, then why wouldn't you do it. That is value.

You don't understand the concept of managing money. If someone wants to pay stupid money for anything, you just take it off them. If they pay more than something is worth then it can be replaced and you still have money over to make improvements.

If you follow your logic then we should overpay for players we want because the money doesn't matter, because we are building something special.

newcastle did the right thing by selling carroll for a ridiculous 35m and might get back for 20, easy 15m profit in a year, surely we can do the same, might get charlie adam for 3m

Don't disagree with that and I agree you must have ambition but there is a limit. You can't make a city of 280,000 become a city of 2 million. We can be a really successful club - as successful as any other - but we'll never be 'big' in the sense of a Liverpool or a Man Utd. because of demographics. I've no problem with that.

Not a question of thinking small, it's a question of keeping your feet on the ground.

The only expectations are the ones you accept

Why would we want Charlie Adam, seems to have gone downhill since his move to Liverpool.

Perhaps that`s the reason `Pool are after our players, ours are better than the ones they`ve got. So much for the bigger/better team.

It might be worth remembering at this point that it is only 2 years ago that Scott Sinclair signed for a record fee of about £1 million and only 1 year ago that Danny Graham signed for a record fee of £3.5 million and he still is the record signing despite the new signings by Laudrup (?)

On that basis I find it quite odd that people don't want to entertain the prospect of selling Joe Allen for £15. Yes, £15 million.

However, as everybody knows, we are not in a position of having to sell anyone and on balance I would rather keep Joe Allen than sell him. But if he wants to go and for that amount of money I certainly won't be distraught.

I can't help but agree with you. Again I find myself saying, Joe was always going to go to bigger and better things. £15m isn't a bad return on his impeccable services to the club in his time here. And given our buying history, that's...

1 x Siggurdson (£8m)
1 x Danny Graham (£3.5m)
1 x De Guzman (£2m)

...and £1.5m change!

Thanks for being awesome, Joe. Good Luck!

Lets sell the whole team, if the price is right! what stupidity aye................... <ok>

C'mon DPJ, I can see the point you're making, but that's not the case. As I've said already, Joe was always a prospect for bigger and better things. £15m is a good return for the club.

You have to factor in wages, and bringing in a replacement that doesn't break your wage structure. That's the hard part.

EDIT: If anyone's curious about the possibility of Jonjo Shelvey on loan I'll be happy to fill you in.
