Agreed. Look at the alternative - we say "**** it, not going to pay the extra £3.5M". Then he signs for the mancs or someone else, and in 2 years time is absolutely buzzing and we end up kicking ourselves all over £3.5M
...............................Lucas.........................Allen.................................... ...........................................Gerrard................................................... ......................Borini...................................Ramirez....................... ............................................Suarez............................................... ....................................Wee Jay.............Shelvey.................................... ..........Bellamy............................Aqualani.......................Adam................. .............................................Carroll............................................. Strength in depth Henderson, Cole, Suso, Sterling, Dempsey?
13.5m providing we can offload some of our CM´s surplus to requirements seems fair enough considering he has time on his contract. He can play with and instead of Lucas, so definitely an improvement to the squad, for all the talk of having loads of CM´s hardly any of them are good enough !, be that ever or at this moment in time. I´m happy with Borini & Allen, Dempsey is a funny one, yes he can hit the ground running (maybe the same was said of Downing & Adam before they signed, but i digress) but the fees involved for a 29/30 yr old dont add up. 6-7m no more... or look elsewhere. Its the wide areas im worried about, we look good knocking it about the centre and keeping the ball, untill it hits the wide areas..no penetration, I wanted to see us add Hoilett or a similar tricky wide man that can keep possession as well as beat their man. As good as Allen would be I dont think it should be at the expensive of a wideman so lets hope they have someone in mind....maybe even 2 to be fair, if as expected Sterling is Loaned, incidentally i was very much for him being loaned out untill I saw the pre-season game(not that he was amazing) but in this current squad he definitely has something to offer.
You have to remember, Stevie G will pick up injurys, he is getting older and has no rest due to the world cup and Lucas is coming back from a serious injury, we will need to be patient with that. Allen is perfect. Anyway Stevie G would be better playing ahead of two midfielders ............................Lucas..............Allen............. ....................................Gerrard............... better going forward.
Did that mate, no one knows, but they seem pissed off now. I think they rate Allen as the jewel in the crown.
If the quoted price is what we end up paying for JA I would find it hard to argue with you plus it heaps pressure on them that can affect their game (emgm comparisons with Alonso etc) Anyway if he comes then I hope he does prove to be good value in the end but it certainly raises a few questions yet again.
Siggy was just a loan for 1/2 a season so had no real connection to Rodgers, I'm hoping that Allen will want to join up with him as the style of football suits Allen.
GAMES PLAYED 36 GOALS 4 ASSISTS 2 Not fantastic stats for a guy supposedly already achieving his potential Luv?
I said at the end of the season we need a midfielder, due to Gerrard's age and the fact that Lucas was injured, a right winger, and another goalscoring forward. Looks like these are the positions being targeted, although it seems Rodgers plays inside forwards and not wingers. On a side note? Is tonight's game on ESPN again??
He is essentially a deep playmaker, it's his pass completion stats that are relevant, not goals. He is not a forward...
Don't get what all the negativity is about, basically he is better than Adam, improves the squad, and adds something we lack. What's all the fuss about.???
He played with him at Reading as well different type of midfielder than Allen granted...but is Allen worth double what Spurs paid for Siggy?? I don't see it myself but fingers crossed.
He's box to box good defender but keeps his passing simple and always finds a man, he tends to dictate the tempo in the midfield very much in the mold of Xavi. Now I'm not comparing them talent wise but in that they are quite unusual players who play a specific role.
I don't think that's how we should approach are signings, I hardly think not signing Allen for £15m will be an opportunity missed, he just seems like he'd fit quite happily into the overpaid british heap we're accumulating including Adam, Downing, Carroll & Henderson, the latter two who are 22/23 year olds with "potential" that I've really yet to see justify their price tags.
