Greaves was one of the greatest strikers,(forwards, in his day),to have ever graced the game.
Always a joy to see him,but sadly, only on TV.
He made goal scoring look so easy.
In addition,he is a genuinely nice,modest person.
Get well soonest,Sir.

Sad to see such a dearth of posts on this thread.

Presumably the people who follow P.L. don't acknowledge those who preceded it.
There were many posts in our Bill Nicholson (pub) thread before this was created. I am sure I speak for most fans across football when I say we are all keeping fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery, at least enough that he can enjoy his declining years. Mods - can the comments from the Bill Nick be moved here. I am sure many will comment when further news is available

Thanks yidokev, I enjoyed watching that and reliving old memories of great days.

Have you got the two he scored against Liverpool at the Lane ? One was a mazy run and the other was a cheeky free kick beating Tommy Lawrence on his near post.

Think some people are like me and do not really know what to say when there is sad news about someone being so seriously ill. Doesn't mean we don't care though...

Was too young to see him live but the footage I have seen show him to be one of the best finishers in the history of English football.

He managed to beat his battle with the bottle so hopefully that strength will help him in this battle

ITV News have just reported that Greavsie is conscious, unable to speak, but
"aware of his condition" . :(

Not sure if @PleaseNotPoll could try, I never knew how to do it on the old version of the board, let alone this new one.

As for the lack of comments, I think it's been covered why that is but it's difficult for younger fans that don't have the same fond memories that you can only really get from being a fan around the time he was playing. Better for us to stay quiet and listen to the stories from the oldies(sorry) who have a better understanding on just how brilliant and highly regarded he is.

Thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy and his family.

It 's all been said already. But I wanted to sign up to the best wishes expressed. One of the greatest in my football-watching lifetime (70+ years).
Thanks for the line, YV.... Our thoughts and prayers are indeed with Jimmy and his family. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

'The family of Jimmy Greaves would like to extend their deepest thanks to Tottenham Hotspur for the lovely flowers we received when Jim was first taken ill. Special thanks to the Spurs fans that have responded with thousands of messages and good wishes. Jimmy and all the family have been genuinely moved by the depth of support shown by so many. Terry Baker has received in excess of 150,000 messages over the days since May 2nd and more than half are from Spurs fans. Jimmy is still recovering slowly and steadily and we are sure the love you have all showed him have helped him immeasurably. Thankyou all so very much.'
