I am absolutely gutted, he is my all time footballing hero outside of BCFC players. Rest in peace Jimmy Greaves your goal scoring and skill for all of your clubs, lit up the 1960's and 70's for me and your later career in football punditry became the benchmark. Attached is a signed photo of Jimmy scoring the 2nd goal against City in a 1967 5th round FA cup tie at White Hart Lane, I was there with dad, his friend and his son, sadly I am the only one of us still alive it hangs proudly in my man cave.
What a player, deadly in and around the box, probably the best English finisher of all and desperately unlucky in '66. A massive travesty that of all footballers Jimmy Graves wasn't knighted. RIP Greavsie.
Saw him play 3 times and he scored 2 for Tottenham v City and once for West Ham and again scored v City and once for Chelmsford at Bath and scored then also.
When stars like Jimmy pass on into the next life, it is a grim reminder that we were lucky to have his talents in our lifetime …… and a wake up call that the reaper is closing in on us! RIP Jimmy, glad you got a belated medal... and beat the bottle to stay with us for so long ………………...
Spurs players of yesteryear were lined up before the Chelsea game. They looked smart befitting the occasion. Except Hoddle, looked a bloody scruff and imo didn't show the respect Jimmy Greaves deserved. He stood out like sore thumb.
Saw that - Hoddle looked like he'd thrown a tracksuit top on amongst those others dressed for respect. Great to see Steve Perryman and Ossie Ardiles there in that lineup - and suited up properly for the occasion
I've thought Hoddle hasn't looked good for some time - it looks like he has really let himself go - almost like he has an alcohol problem or something. However, I'd be surprised if he DOES have an alcohol problem because he used to take VERY good care of himself up until his heart attack. He worked out in the hotel that my eldest daughter used to work in in Egham. He was a member of the gym there and was always in it - kept himself in good shape.
Never saw him play live but his reputation and goals tally went before him. Used to love Saint & Greavies with Jim and Ian St John Great talent who has suffered a lot these last few years Rest easy Jim
