You'll be suprised how easily he'll deflect this one. As his people say he's doing nothing illegal and has informed the relevant authorities. Its immoral that multi-millionaires pay less tax than the rest of us but they can afford the best tax accountants and lawyers and we can't. It is a game of cat and mouse - HMRC are fighting against the brightest and best legal minds in the country whilst being hamstrung by a slow moving legislative system controlled by people who are bankrolled by the very people HMRC are trying to catch so sadly they are always going to come second.
Yeah it's alright him being dead clever about everyone else, looking down his nose being a pompous f*cker but he is a low life shister who is making everybody else pay a bit more so he can welsh out. hilarious, tosser!!
apparently take that are up to something similar in todays paper as soon as one loophole is shut, companies will open up another one
The problem is, if we were in his position and a financial advisor says 'do you want to pay less tax legally' How many would sit there and say 'oh no, i want to donate 50% of my earnings so some sodding MP can claim for a new plug'
I completely agree with you if you're earning that much. However, the difference here is that he then went and criticised/joked about others avoiding tax. That's the hypocrisy. Cameron got it all wrong when he said it was immoral- it's the politicians fault for making the tax rules so complicated that clever accountants can do this. Carr's mistake wasn't in the fact he was legitimately reducing his tax liability, it was in attacking others.
He is a comedian, thats what he does. I'm sure that every single comedian has been a hypocritic between their private life and professional life to get a laugh! I have a news flash for everyone, There is no such bloke as Keith Lemon, he is only a comedian trying to get a laugh and i'm sure he doesn't act like that in real life! Following on from Jimmy Carr's apology, I would like to apologies to everyone for driving into work today keeping within the legal limits.
Sorry Supers, I think you are way off on this one! He is an arrogant twat and his position is indefensible. Apologising is the mearest form of humiliation but his reputation such as it was is over.
i realise its morally wrong but what he did wasn't actually illegal. its the people who allow this sort of thing to happen who need to apologise, not those who use the loophole. i don't recall the need for all members of take that to apologise... i very much doubt it will affect his career at all by the way. it gives him even more material if anything.
You totally miss the point! He is taking the piss and insulting other people like bankers etc for doing something that he is also doing! In my book that's blatant hypocracy!
he's clearly been advised poorly by his accountant / financial advisor. He isn't the first and won't be the last what the government should focus on is not saying whether it is morally incorrect to do this kind of thing (as it's not illegal), but sort of the shambles that is HMRC to crack down properly on these companies.
Dead right! You can't pretend to be a trendy lefty and yet not be prepared to do your share in building hospitals but condemn Barclays for not doing so either. More faces than the town hall clock!
I always remember Bill Maynard (Claude Jeremiah Greengrass) saying, when he first became very popular on telly, he was prosecuted for tax evasion, he said, "I suddenly started earning all this money, and I foolishly thought I was allowed to keep some of it!"
Tax is theft. Those trying to avoid/minimize it are therefore to be commended. And do people really think his fanbase who are amused by all sorts of offensive stuff are going to turn against him because of a bit of lawful financial management?
