Shame, because I liked him after the City game. But it was clear that something wasn't working, so bon voyage and thanks for the memory (pity it was the only one, really...)
I think a lot of the blame of Ji's failings has to go down to Steve Bruce. After having strikers of the level of Bent, Gyan & Welbeck. Replacing them with Ji and Wickham was ludicrious. We had clearly come to expect a level of striker from Steve Bruce and replacing them with an unknown kid from the chinese super league was plain silly. Wish the lad all the best. Clearly had talent but lacked the heart or confidence to back it up for the premier league (imo).
11:07 Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Ji Dong-won will join the club in the summer on a free transfer, just a day after the South Korean striker left Sunderland for Augsburg. Ji's Sunderland contract was due to expire at the end of the season and he linked up with Augsburg for an undisclosed fee. However, Ji will now start a four-year contract with Borussia Dortmund from July 1st. Strange what's this all about .????
Wtf? Been shafted here like! £500k so they can sell to dortmund Edit : on 2nd thoughts, good business, £500k or nowt in the summer and off the wage bill now
I was just wondering that myself. This seems wrong? How can he sign a 3 year deal with one club then agree to join another club 24 hours later????? How much are Ausberg getting for this? I remember when Ji first signed making statements about smashing defenders, oh well. Thanks for the City Goal, good luck in the champions league! Eh?
He only signed a 6 month contract with Augsburg mate...so they have kinda shafted themselves Bit of a twattish move by Ji and cant see the fans taking to him for it, however i suppose if Dortmund come knocking your not gonna say no Obviously Klopp sees something in him!
Even Gus is confused. Admits he's a good player but doesn't understand why it hasn't worked out. It's a shame because I liked Ji, but his performances always lacked.
The goal outweighs the non header for me, the best radio commentary moment ever, everytime, the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, the capacity crowds unison intake of breath, before the roar is something quite special
Augsburg and Sunderland would have been aware of the Dortmund deal before their deal was done! It would be like a loan deal to Augsberg, except Sunderland have washed their hands with him! Sunderland get a bit of money Augsburg get a 'quality' player for 6 months Dortmund get their man! Everybodies happy!
One can only assume they have chronic issues with rogue stray dogs around North Rhine-Westphalia, cos they surely haven't signed the heap of **** to replace Lewandowski. If they have, then some ****er has swapped the tea bags for magic mushrooms. Ji is ****ing awful, and he will slow down an already stuttering side, considering he takes a touch, then about 3 seconds to move off in any direction. I'd suggest the likes of Gundogan & Reus look at his and think '**** that, I'm off', Bayern already streets ahead sign a world class striker that will fill the only slight weakness in their squad, Dortmund sign a striker who closes his eyes & ducks in front of an open goal. Good riddance you useless ****er.
17 January 2014 13:47 JI Dong-won will join Borussia Dortmund in the summer – after completing a stunning second transfer in less than 24 hours. The striker yesterday joined German side Augsburg on a deal until the end of the season. But Dortmund today announced they have signed the South Korean on a pre-contract, and the 22-year-old will move to them on July 1 in a four-year deal. “Ji Dong-won is someone who can play in a variety of attacking positions,” said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc of a forward capped 27 times by his country. “We’re delighted to have been able to sign such a talented player on a free for next season.” Sunderland turned down a £5m bid for Ji from Dortmund last summer when boss Paolo Di Canio rejected the move. Ji’s contract at Sunderland was set to expire in the summer, and the Black Cats agreed an undisclosed fee with Augsburg for the player, but it will be nowhere near what they could have received last year.
Maybe that was down to De Fanti? PDC said he was being made to take players he didn't want and keep players he didn't want.
Well said. We are well rid, I was one of the few who wanted him to be given a run of games to build up his confidence. The way he ducked out of that header made me cringe and when I think back to how many times he was brushed aside easily with no fight. Makes me realise how wrong I was.
Not one of the supporters would've chickened out of that ............ they wouldn't have been allowed back on the bus.
