The thing is - Roy Keane was employed for the wrong reasons. He was employed solely because ME and SC, as we all did, thought he would bring instant results. Would Magic have got the push otherwise? I can't imagine a scenario where Jim had kept his job and we wouldn't be in the Prem by now. He was learning and he was doing well by comparison. Surely we need to learn from that and stop this culture of wanting it yesterday. PJ's side was doing relatively well last season and we are only a few games into this one. He's made some fantastic signings and although he is clearly losing confidence himself it would be entirely ridiculous not to give him time to settle all these fantastic players and build on them. The only thing he is doing wrong is not sticking his chest out and having faith. The squad needed major surgery. We have almost an entirely new team. He has actually managed to lose GMac and Norris and replace them with superior players! We were never getting promoted this season. Anywhere above 10th will do and we can enjoy Norwich running around playing great football and getting beat every week. This will be a good season. Enjoy.
Hampy has a point. PJ has had one transfer window and done the business he was able to. That doesn't mean it's 'his' team or that he's happy. I want to see a settled team that we add one or two players to each window but with so many contracts up this year it was inevitable that we would need a lot of players. PJ has brought in the people he thinks will keep us competitive for the time being while we scout the gems out. It's not the ideal scenario or one most of us are happy about but one that was forced onto us by the lack of contract negotiations last year. Having said that we could've really been in the **** if we had offered big contracts to some of our players and ended up in league one, which looked like a possibility at times last year. I hear where you're coming from JWM but it looks like we will have to be patient again. Let's not get rid of another manager so soon or we will be back in the same boat yet again. Keane really ****ed everything up by totally dismantling on ok squad.
San Diego you have summed up the situation perfectly. JWM I am an extremely frustrated Ipswich fan but not yet with PJ yet, although he has made some questionable decision(as do nearly all managers) I actually feel sympathy for him that he has come to the club at this time and he seems to be getting some of the brunt of what Keane should have got. Indeed it was a very long time since I saw a decent game of football which got me excited. The last good game I saw was Jim's last game in charge against the scum and then the next good game I went to was the game after Keane left when we beat the arsenal, coincidence I think not, I know things weren't great when Jim left but in those 2 years when Keane was here I genuinely lost my enthusiasm for supporting the club it was that bad. Again JWM it seems like you are angry with Jewell for the mess he was left with and what has happened to the club over the past 4 years. tractorbhoy I agree with what most people are complaining about I just don't think that Jewell has had enough time to sort them out even if some of them are of his own making. The problem with too many CM's I think is that PJ didn't think he would be able to sign Bullard so he signed Bowyer instead but turned out in the end he could sign Bullard. The problem with is recruitment and I have no problem with it atm is that he had to get alot of players in quickly and I think most of them are of a high quality but yes their age is questionable, IMO I think considering the position we are in and the mess we were he has done outstandingly well to recruit the players of quality he has done. We needed alot of players in every position there is only so much he can do and he can only get those players who are available and thats if other clubs don't come in for them 1st as I'm sure they did on many occasions over the summer. Jewell knows he needs to get players from lower leagues and has brought one superb signing in Cresswell, and he knows he needs to get some pace in the team but he can only sort out so much at a time, time is what he needs, he's only really been given one transfer window to not strengthen but assemble a whole squad. I do find some of his decisions a little strange, especially the playing 4CM's in the team although he does have a lack of wide options, although I do not find them baffling unlike our previous manager. I can't believe there was so little grumbling on the real 606 when Keane was appointed when we didn't win a game until november and I can see much more promise in the team now that I could then, it seems all that patience people had with Keane has all been used up and now Jewell doesn't stand a chance unless he gets results and quick. I agree tractorbhoy I think the board should come up with a 5 year plan to get the club promoted rather than saying we want to get promotion at the earliest oppertunity which may stem the need for short term decisions that are harmful to the club and stem supporters unrealistic expectations.
