I rate Loach, he's on the bench but he's a baby. He definitely has more about him than just being an Ipswich fan. Personally, I think we'll struggle to get a permanent signing much better than Lee Barrett at the moment so I'd hand him the gloves. id much rather that than another string of loan keepers. Others disagree. You have to remember the circumstances under which he signed - he was brought in as an emergency and earned himself a contract and then an extension. He's the only keeper we've had for several years who's put a shift in every time he's been called upon and there is value in that.
lee-barrett was at norwich as a kid and i have to say i thought he looked next-to-useless. i think he ended up in the non-league which is where i thought he'd stay but he recovered and did well for hartlepool. he's definitely got better since being at ipswich and getting some game time but i can't imagine him being the long term answer for a team attempting to get promoted. i'd bet on a keeper being top priority for jewell come the summer.
He's obviously not a Premier League keeper. I'd love to sign kuszczak, but realistically a keeper who could hold his own in the Prem is not going to come to Town at the moment when we're cutting wages left, right and centre so If we can't get someone truly quality in (McCarthy was a bloody joke) then id give him the number one shirt in the expectancy that he'll be thrilled, grow into it and play out of his skin.
TBH, It would be unfair to really judge a keeper until we get the bloody sorted out and strengthened. ALB has done no better or no worse than any other keeper we have had over the last 2 to 3 seasons so i can't understand all the negativity against him.
i think kuszczak is a good shout though. he's a talented keeper, good age, he's at watford at the moment isn't he, so i'm sure wages wouldn't be a problem if they can afford him, albeit on loan. free transfer too. guru is of course right about the defence though - if a keeper doesn't feel secure with whats in front of him he'll lose confidence.
Not a fan of ALB being our GK next season. Decent number 2 and has a superb attitude but not good enough for the long term. Though saying this I'd much rather us get 2 CB's in before a GK. But we need a new GK for next season!! I would however prefer that we stick with ALB if we can't get a permanent GK rather than bring in loans again though Kuszczak would be a great addition, though I am skeptical that we can afford his wages even though he's on loan at Watford I would imagine Man Utd are contributing alot to his wages and even if we could I'm pretty sure that PL would be interested and top end championship clubs!!
a club thats finsihed in the bottom half for three seasons although i agree that we shouldnt see ourselves as underneath anyother championship club
Just as a side issue, what do you really think of Leadbitter? I've seen that many of you have taken to calling him Leadboots and several think you paid too much for him, but is he actually crap? Obviously he put two past us, so he looked decent at our place, but what do you really think of him? (I think we might be looking at him, hence the question)
Can I just point out that although Wolves are in a complete mess, we'll be competing with West ham, and two of Bolton, Blackburn or QPR next year!
not sure what your point is Lancs, i was agreeing that we should see ourselves as a top championship team that can and should compete with the best of them, it just may be hard to prove that to players when you consider our past few seasons yes there are many teams to compete with but we should be up there with them. and by the way west ham were in wolves position this time last year
It is about time that we should be realising our full potential and stop making excuses and running ourselves down. We are a relatively big club compared to many in this division and i'm talking fanbase, facilities, finances, heritage etc. For too long we have just accepted mediocrity when we should be accepting nothing less than a top 6 finish. I despair at some people who just hope for gradual improvement!
Dont quite get your point Lancs, It is the case every year that the worst 3 premier league clubs come down. Every year people say its the hardest ever yet the likes of Blackpool and Swansea have managed to do the impossible on far fewer resources than we have available
Terrible attitude. Performs now that he needs to impress. When he can't be arsed passes constantly go astray and he's a liability playing in front of the back four. Good luck to him, somewhere else.
Mike, first of all, West Ham are in the hands of owners who have a track record and will keep investing and will keep on and on until they get what they want. So they have never been in the situation that Wolves are in. Second of all, we can go on forever about the fact that we should think of ourselves as being superior but the fact of the matter is that with Simon Clegg running things we're about as superior as Luton Town. I'm not content with top six even and for that reason I cant stand all this nonsense about having made progress because we'll all be dead before we get back to the Premier League at this rate.
Has played well for the last 10 games (?) other than that has done nothing. Have no idea how he made any performances in the premiership and other than the fact that RK is a brain dead moron I have no idea why anyone would consider he was worth £1.80 let alone the £1.8m we reportedly paid for him. Until his recently upturn in form (his first real form in 3 years) he was known for... well nothing really.
I meant like those teams who are either coming down or who miss out on promotion this year. We are in far better position than last season to attract players. We just have to be realistic if a team who have been relegated or just missed out on promotion go after one of the players we want it will hardly be surprising if they decide to go to those clubs. Ipswich is still probably quite an attractive club to come to with its history, reputation, fan base and facilities etc but are some people really that stupid?? I see its those same people who think we are going to have a bad season next season are the one's who are saying we are a top end championship club, am I loosing the plot here or are there people actually in the world who can think like this!!!! I MEAN WTF!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
How the hell does that work? We are at a level equal to Luton Town but you wont accept even 6th place. Now I dont know what league you think we are in but there are some bloody large and successful clubs and squads in this league. I would love us to be top 2 but I dare say Leeds, Birmingham, Boro, Cardiff, Leicester, as well as the relegated trio will all be thinking the same thing and you can also look towards Forest, who have had a poor season, Brighton who invested some decent money last summer, the promoted trio should be decent clubs aswell. That doesnt even mention the clubs that people never rate but just get on with it like Watford. This league is known as the most competitive for a very good reason. There are always 10 or 12 very strong teams in it. Who ever goes up goes up because they have played very well for at least 40 of their 46 matches. You cant just think we have a right to be anywhere based on what amounts a succesful period 30 years back and a nice stadium that almost bankrupted us? Im starting to think you dont want a new manager or a new CEO you want a miracle to happen
the problem is tractorbhoy, ptc and Mike is that you all sound like what comes out of the club. Start talking to me about the difficulty of competing with the other clubs, which is a valid point, when we start making the most of the players we already have in our own squad at the moment. Any Tom, Dick or Harry could pick a Championship winning side put of the talent we have now or have sold on since Jim left. No other club has forced us to do that. Admittedly goalkeeping has been a problem and thats the one area we havent had anyone pass through (personally I'd opt for ALB) but how about: ALB Rosenior McAuley Smith Cresswell Walters Hyam Drury Martin Wickham Rhodes
We need to be run like a decent championship before we are a decent championship club. Until that **** Clegg goes we are ****ed!
