I think you're completely wrong here, Pennant was out of order to go posting rants on twitter, if I did that and my boss saw, I'd be in right ****. He should take his problems to Pulis and the rest of the staff, not rant about it in public. If Joey Barton had said this everyone would be slagging him off. Any player that has a problem should speak their mind, but to the appropriate people, not through a social network site, it's unprofessional, and shows that they think they are more important than everyone else. In my opinion this is not the right opinion to have. Fair enough, you think Pulis is a knob, but most bosses are!
Ahh, but you would have a grievence procedure at work or regular 1to1's where you could manage up and be managed yourself, resulting in job satisfaction, personal satisfaction and personal development! If you expressed a concern - or for example said to your line manager that you applied for or your job spec was: Head of IT and not the toilet cleaner - and he /she either ignored you or told you to sit in the naughty corner and face the wall that would be constructive dismissal! However, in the World of Football its is always a pissing contest - hence the flying naked headbut! Now tell me you would put up with that from your Boss?
Mate, as I've said, pretty much all bosses are dickheads in one way or another. Beattie could have pressed charges against Pulis for the headbutt incident if he'd wanted. In my job we don't get a lot of personal or job satisfaction, we move boxes. And if you piss about and show the boss no respect, you can bet your ass you'll be picking up scraps of cardboard on your own and doing all the heavy lifting yourself. Your example of head of IT to toilet cleaner is rather extreme, and yeah, there'd be a problem there, but "Stop fixing computers and clean up piss" is rather different from "Hang back 10 or so yards and help Wilko."
Hi I agree that Pennant should not rant on Twitter. It is a dnagerous Public Forum that so many have fallen foul of. Yes you are correct that Pennant should keep it 'in house.' Pullis has not reacted in public to what Pennant has said but I fear we will not see Pennant on Saturday. IMO that is a mistake and it deprives the team of invention which we are sadly lacking without Pennant. What I hear is that players are unhappy and I fear what might happen if TP does not manage the situation? Yes football is a unique industry and I think it can not be compared with any other profession, there are no lines of management you can go to. The only opportunity for players is teh Palyers Federation where Gordon Taylor amongst others will act on behalf of players. However players going to the press or Facebook or Twitter are to a great extent sowing their seeds to go elsewhere. However I do think it mystifying that so often players are played out of position.
I dont have any particular concern about Pennant because he has always been a loose cannon - for me fine and finbe him and fine him and fine him etc... but you play your best players in their best position! I agree that my example of the 2 proffession are extreme but my point stands, a forwad thinking winger or wing back in the Pennant example or a RB playing striker in Shotton or CM playing LB in Wilson, Huth/Woody at RB, is not ultimatley what they came to this club to do and there has to be empathy with a players concerns if put in that position! The point is that regardless of the conduct of the player (which I dont think is exceptable by the way) the way TP handles the situations (and there are many) is quite frankly a joke! If Beattie had twated TP and knocked his front teeth out for example there would be a very different slant on the situation, Beattie would have had is contrcat terminated been fined a zillion quid and probably would have only been picked up by the duck & partridge lads & dads team! TP bleats on about who he sees himself the equivilent to Battersea dogs home! The problem is that the nature of the beast is what it is, so maybe he should look in the mirror and say "I'm not suitable for a staffie, boxer, Springer" and pick himself a "Lap Dog" instead!
More tweets from Mr Pennant: @j_pennant: Daily mail your stupid story didn't work, why dont you print something useful next time @j_pennant: Daily mail, the sun print this, I love the club amazing team mates, work there socks off, and got a lot of time for TP no nonsense manager @j_pennant: I bet anybody I don't see that in any of the press @j_pennant: And couldn't fit in but best fans in the league noise levels are ridiculous Not too unhappy then?
Smit To be honest I took the bait last weekend when I read Sgt post.. the very first one on here. I did use twitter but only rarely and that is how I found out about the Crouch and Palacios deal last summer.. BUT, i knew the guy I was talking too... hence all i heard i knew for sure it was bang on the money reliable. Anyone can use twitter and follow or be followed.. I actaully had at one point last summer over 40 following my comments asking questions. None of which I replied too. Hey feckin ho everything I NEVER said was either lies, damn lies or complete and utter garbage so... Peannant may or may not have said these things.. perhaps like Sex before games it should be banned a complete no go area? Before anyone asks, yes I can and yes I will... Smit back on topic.. IF Pennant is happy then brilliant for Stoke City and the fans.. I do know he was hacked off a few weeks back but who wouldn't be if they we're not selected? Let's just hope he plays tommorow night from the start.
The tweets are from the same source as the original comments, so if they were true, so are these and if they were garbage... Who knows? There are at least two Jermaine Pennant pages on twitter, but who's to say if either of them are actually written by the man himself? Let's hope he does play, but I'll be surprised if he does, especially if Etherington is fit.
There was also this from the same tweeted from the same account:‏ @j_pennant Not 1 bit of me was moaning just stated where I spent most of game playing I would play in goal if I had too Jesus Christ
https://twitter.com/#!/j_pennant Just for confirmation. This is Jermaine's Twitter page. You can tell it is him because of the blue tick on his profile. That means it has been verified by Twitter as genuine.
Are you kidding me - you'd be happy losing 3-1?! Swansea will go down next year FACT - they'll be found out by teams as they'll no longer have the suprise element, SToke on the other hand WILL stay up under TP, don't be foolish Stokies look what happened to Wimbledon, Charlton, Southampton - mark my words we get rid of TP and that WILL happen to us - will you then be happy playing pretty football in divsion 2 - thought not. If you want entertainment get down to your local strip bar - if you want grit, determination and 110% given by the lads each week get down to the Bear Pit - in your words Rant over. Sick of fans like you thinking we're better than we are.
Tony Welcome to the Stoke City board NO I would not be happy losing ANY game we lose I hate it. IF you have read my previous comments and there are numerous. YOU will see that I also said, I do not mind losing if we played OK, and we tried. Going to the "Bear pit" I've MISSED only a hand full of games in years so I'm entitled to my oppinion. It WAS a fantastic atmosphere but this season it is not. I don't do strip bars, and yes I want to see more football i.e. entertainment that is what I am asking for. Do you EVER go to away games Tony? I did until this last season.. 110 per cent commitment? NO it's not who are you kidding? I respect what your'e trying to say but READ my other posts before biting my head off. For the record I've supported Stoke for 50yrs and counting, so I know a decent game of fooite when I see one. pott's
Sorry Potts it just seems every time I read this board our own fans are having a go at our style, and wanting TP out. We all know our style is not pretty but I wouldn't say that it's not entertaining either - each to their own I suppose! Granted we're not as good away as we are at home - but then neither are Man City and we all know how much they've spent on their squad... I for one will KTF, and I hope we'll be in the Premier League for a long time. I heard some moronic QPR fan on the 909 phone in the other day saying how much he'd hated this season and would prefer to go down so that they can win all their games and doesn't want to get promoted again - some fan eh?
Tony No problem All I am asking for is for Mr Pulis to change his ways slightly.. slowly, very slowly I do believe he is trying to do that. And as for Pulis out! No because Mr Coates and he are doing very well. I guess I see it as a kind of school report which say's " Could try harder" I'm off too Newcastle next weekend, I'm hoping to see us have a right go and attack.. KTF Tony.
Potts (and the rest of the Stokies who travel to the North East next week), give the lads a cheer from me as I will not be there this season. Why? My son-in-law (the toon fan) has only gone and booked a short break to EuroDisney next week and doesn't return until Sunday. He forgot about the game so we won't be going! We also missed the game at the Brit this season because it was moved to Monday night for TV! As for the game on Saturday: I would like us to get something and have a go, it worked last year, but Newcastle are having a very good season and are very strong at home. If we 'kick' Ben Arfa early on and Huth keeps Cisse in check we may have a chance but I fear the Toon will nick the points. If we attack them we might get something but to defend could cost us. Enjoy the trip whatever the result.
I personally don't think we have a chance In Geordie Land, they're having a great season but I'll be making the trip anyway with a mate who's a Toon fan - I hope we stuff 'em cos it'll be an awful journey back otherwise! And if Demba scores against us again I'll never hear the end of it
P Potter and Tony I'm going because loads of my family are Geordie fanatics.. as you know I was born there, came too Stoke aged 4. Not sure if this is a good thing but.. One of my cousin's up there is on holiday so, I've got his ticket sitting with the Newcastle fans. I have been assured that I will be safe wearing my Red n White shirt. WHEN we score, it should be fun eh? Not sure where in the Stadium but I'm told it's about 30 seats from the halfway line. Will let you know when I find the exact area fellas. Give me a wave too that's if you can see(ME) as the view from the back of that stand is amazing. Abeit a long way from the action. Speningd the rest of the weeked there too! Newcastle Brown anyone? The ONLY downside is the missus is tagging along too!
