OK, so Defoe is supposedly nailed on to join us in January. If, and I reiterate if, Charlie continues his current form, do we need Defoe? I would say we are more in need of a Zamora type player that can hold the ball up for Charlie.
Totally agree. If its a 6 month loan with the poss of another year on average wages, then yes he could be good cover. Personally would go buy another young hungry striker or tempt Vardy et al....
None of this lot though:-
He should come I think it's a good risk as got to be worth 10 goals and could hook up well with BZ Taarabt would find him in a blink of an eye if he is fit and playing to his potential as he is probably the best at finding a player Taarabt and Routledge were fantastic I can see the same Adel and Defoe
I would love a guaranteed 10 goal striker signed in January If he is fit Defoe could do that Anyone know how fit he is (Stupid question....we all know he is as fit as a fiddle, certificates to prove he is the fittest player ever to be signed in a January window....but one training session in, his achilles will go)
Yes, we can't rely on just Charlie. Defoe would be very helpful providing we are not paying too much.
Defoe is a proven Premier League goal scorer, and although our front players are in form at the moment we are very short in that area. I'd take him in a flash.
If he's available we should definitely take him on loan. Only other thought is that I can't help but think we have a younger and better forward in Vargas though I'd rather us sign a right sided midfielder to free Vargas to play up top
Now that is certainly true too We have three good strikers....but one is running on empty And we are beginning to play two up front. No margin for error at all We need a fit and scoring Defoe. But we need a hungry youngster too
As I've said on this before. No issue with the man personally but we need to replace bobby. He's the wrong style of player.
I think Defoe would be all wrong for us... he is too old, has a massive ego and wants massive wages to go with it - let him go to a club who are prepared to **** off all their current players by paying him 90k a week - I read somewhere (might have been LFW) that clubs of our size need to go for the up and coming and not the big name signings - I couldn't agree more. Really hoping his wage demands are huge and that TF tells him to do one. We don't need the grief - but we do need someone as a back up to our No.1...
The main problem I can see is Redknapps insistence on playing his favourites and I can see that affecting Austin mainly. Obviously with Austins form at the moment he'd be unlikely to be dropped, but if he went a couple of games without a goal, Defoe would be in straight away and I'm not sure what that'd do to Charlies confidence. It's unlikely we'd play Austin and Defoe together in a game. Defoes also 32 and, yet again, an expensive stop gap signing. I'm luke warm to the idea.
