Agree there too he did do OK, and I thnk the ploy was good, the Tories had to behave themselves because the questions were from voters. Nice
I think Corbyn needs to up his PR game, he's going to need some of the media on his side, Labour won't get elected otherwise. Unfortunately it's not all about substance, appearance sadly is just as important
Agreed, but lets be right, the media take the role of Kingmaker but in reality they just like to back the winning horse and help it over the line. If Corbyn does gain public acceptance then the media will alter their stance towards him organically.
True, I think the backlash againt him is actualy doing him a favour right now, amongst those who are not morons that is
Corbyn has already compromised his position on the EU for the sake of keeping the party together. He's previously been very euro sceptic and wouldn't rule out campaigning to leave the EU but has now said it is likely to be a labour 2020 election promise to stay in the EU... So it hasn't taken him long to begin the compromise, we shall see what policies he ends up with by the next election. Labour seem so torn at the moment it'll be interesting to see what direction corbyn ends up taking.
There is no way around it, Corbyn is going to have to temper some of his more hard line policies. Realpolitik. On the EU, if there is a referendum and it votes to stay with the EU, Corbyn will have no choice really. Nothing wrong with campaigning for leaving it. The voters have the say. Totally agree on the trident issue though
No but he had so far refused to rule out campaigning to leave, but after threats from a few of his new shadow cabinet to leave the party if that's labours position it seems he has given up that particular fight. I wonder how often this will be the case and his views will take a back seat to keeping the party happy?
I was surprised at that tbh, but it's extremely encouraging, as he's obviously intending to act as a leader as opposed to a dictator. The party line remains unchanged despite his previous personal opinions on the subject. His problem will come when his previous words are fully dredged up and thrown back in his face, as he'll have to justify his altered stance.
It's alla bout which way the wind blows.. if there is sufficient discontent with te EU amongst the population he'll be back on that wagon post haste.
That's easy, I changed my mind because the british people want to remain in the EU and I listen to the British people
What's really an issue is the twisted logic employed in politics. People are well aware that politicains don't really listen to the voters, especially after election time has come and gone. So Corbyn backtracking because of public opinion is the voters actually having traction with his decions. Yet other parties and the media will slate him for backtracking and deciding to go along with voter sentiment. It's not protrayed that way, it's used as an attack on him when in fact isn't that what we want? that our will on issues is considered?
I think with the EU issue it's clear the pressure has come from within his party rather than the voters. Like I say it'll be interesting to see how his policies develop and why they change over the next five years.
Yeah you are probably right. Still, it's good to see them bending to what we the voter want be it the EU Trident or whatever, refreshing change, might be a different story after being elected if it were to happen though as that is the norm sadly
I see the Tories silently slashed funding to orphan refugees in the UK. Nice. #everylittlehelps #thebankers
If Cameron has this referendum and there is like a close split vote I am pretty sure it will be back on the agenda
Cameron, citizen communications privacy is a threat to national security. In other words, the gov should be able to see everything you say online and hear everything you say on the phone http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...twitter-to-share-users-messages-10505404.html WhatsApp and iMessage could be banned as MI5 boss Andrew Parker asks Facebook and Twitter to share users' messages This week we are told your privacy, which you have a right to, and the labour party are a threat to national security. Some of the most horrible state crimes ever were committed in the name of national security, its the very excuse the North Koreans use, China and so on Hardly a BBF conspiracy theory when I say police state
So apparently America has decided to become politically correct and put a chick on the new $10 note. (i guess since they all like shopping it makes sense) Anyhow. Republicans were asked last night which chick they thought should be on the note. Jeb Bush said "Margaret Thatcher". / I thought that ever so slightly applies to this thread.
As Marshall McLuhan said, the medium becomes the message. Someone (forget his name) was on 5 live last night discussing PMQ's. basically he was saying that lobby correspondents and political editors are ****ed if the bear-pit approach if dropped in favour of Corbyn's attempts at new style debating (it won't be). Whether it's the public demanding they Sun headline approach, or indeed it's the media's comfort zone to play it this way is like the chicken and egg argument about drug-pushers and users. What's clear is that Cameron's smarmy, Flashman-the-gameshow-host approach will be carrying on a lot longer. The press and the public seem to want it that way.
