We are delighted to confirm the signing of Ivory Coast international Jean Michaël Seri on a four-year deal from OGC Nice.

The midfielder has signed a contract until June 2022, with the Club holding an option to extend by a further 12 months after beating a host of top European sides to Seri’s signature.

The deal is subject to international clearance, and the player obtaining a work permit.

What a result that bit of business with Nice is and full credit to the management staff in making it happen.
Is there doubt about our owner and managements intent for our beloved club now, really?

I've seen figures from £18m to £25m - whatever the number is, it is easily our record signing.

The perceived wisdom in Fleet Street is a combined price of £30m for him and Le Marchand, so that's got to be the right ballpark Surly. Hats off to Khan Jnr for not messing around.

The boys and girls in the PR department have seriously gone to town as well. So, Que Seri Seri here's the inevitable video clip on how good it all might turn out -

Seri is a top player known to any fan who follows European football, was close to signing for Barcelona last summer but Nice blocked it! Reports in France say fee was £17.7 million think that would be €18 million.

For context, this is what Xavi said about him last year (if anyone knows what a good midfielder looks like it's Xavi!):

He would do so well at Barca - Xavi wants Seri at Camp Nou

Having closely followed the progress of the 'African Xavi', the man himself would like to see Jean Michael Seri move to Barcelona from Nice.

Xavi believes Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri has the talent to play for Barcelona after following the career of the 'African Xavi'.

The 26-year-old starred as Nice finished third in Ligue 1 last season, with his form reportedly attracting suitors across Europe, while Xavi's interest was piqued by his nickname.

And Seri could take up Xavi's former role at Camp Nou, according to the Barca great, who has been "entranced" by the midfielder's play.

"When I was told that a player from Nice was called the 'African Xavi', I followed him very closely," Xavi told Le Parisien. "I didn't know [Seri] and I was entranced.

"I'm not used to seeing such talent in midfield any more. The short game, long game, tactical intelligence, long-range shooting, personality, organisation of the play... Madre mia!

"He would do so well at Barca. He can play anywhere in the middle. He is fantastic. He has what they call the Barca DNA. No doubt."
