In a game where we were under the cosh second half and had to do a lot of defending and pressing/chasing, don't think so.
He was our "link man". The oil on the chain that made the midfield run smoothly. The one you realise how good he was only when he's not there!
Moot point now because he's gone but I tend to agree. Valley - you can't have it bot ways. Weren't you saying how JDG's defensive game had improved under Monk?
Yes it had a little, and he was much better imo attacking under Monk too, he just blew hot or cold to often for me. I prefer players who give a 7/8 every week to someone who could give 5 or 9 every other week.
"I prefer players who give a 7/8 every week to someone who could give 5 or 9 every other week. " ..or score 8 a season? After today PGF is right even though it doesn't matter now. But I actually think this game was made for Leon today.
In theory...and I hope he does better than that (I actually think he will). But that's nothing to do with JDG. As I said before we agree to disagree on JDG so it's pointless going over it again.
JDG would have done nothing today. I like him, but we needed to dig in today and battle it out in the second half. Cant remember him making a tackle when he was here and he certainly wasnt one for for a fight. A great player to have when we are on top and playing well. So I dont think JDG would have made a blind bit of difference today.
"Cant remember him making a tackle when he was here" He made plenty after Laudrup's departure TLF, but as I said it doesn't matter now. In know what you mean though about digging in - that's why Leon would have been perfect today imo.
