There was a relegation release clause in his contract. It seems that both he and the club had the option to invoke it. He was crap for us so he is guaranteed to go to another championship club and bang in 20 goals including a winner against us when we play them..........

JAY Bothroyd has left QPR after the club took the option to release him from his contract.
Bothroyd – who joined QPR on a free transfer in the summer of 2011 – signed a three year deal, with the club having the option of releasing the player after two years.
That option has been taken and Bothroyd is now officially a free agent.
Bothroyd made 18 starts and 13 substitute appearances in all competitions since joining the club in the summer of 2011, scoring five goals.
The club would like to thank Jay for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future.

Sadly those players dont have a clause allowing the club to end the contract.
Bothroyd was on good money. So clearing him out now is a good thing as the wage bill needs to be slashed. No one was gonna sign him
wouldn't that be typical....still relegation clause and then going to another championship club? I never thought he was that bad, definitely not the worst and would have given him more of a chance over zamora. Still its getting rid of the easy ones first i suppose.
I think he owes us compensation, to the tune of 103 weeks wages. I'll give him a bye for the Saints game.
