which raises the old question of "specurlate to accomulate", or put another way, spend too much cash and go out of business as a football club. I think next season is more important than this season in lots of repsects. A third season in the PL would begin to mean we could compete a little better in financial terms
i'm of the opinion that i'd rather see us struggle on the pitch than behind the scenes. if a club demands too much, we shouldn't pay it. if a player wants too much, we shouldn't pay it.
Do you reckon Everton will afford £8 Million? I know they bought in Jelavic but that was completely funded by the Arteta transfer. Personally, I may be wrong, but I don't think they'll afford him for that price.
One thing I wilk say though is that lambert has stated that he doesnt have a substantialy bigger budget than last summer, which means is obviously bigger but he has also stated that there won't be as many changes as last summer which means he can be a bit more flexible with the fees we might be able to pay for players...
agree. i would guess at having around £15m to spend this summer if he wishes on transfer fees, but with the knowledge that the budget is probably for the whole of next season and not just the summer - january's funds come out of it too. that should be enough to secure the four or five players we do need and maybe as many as the 7 lambert will no doubt say he needs. it's a tight budget in terms of the league we're in but it's not peanuts
true, but i can't see too much coming into the pot in terms of incomings. i can see martin leaving for a fee and maybe crofts but i think we are struggling to get much extra money for the kitty - but every little bit helps!
Unfortunately, those players who may or may not leave in the close season would not generate much money. we'd get them off the wage bill and save that way, but that's all. The biggest fee we could hope to recieve would be for Morison and on his current form we'd do well to break even on what we payed for him IMO
i'm not just sure how everton would be offering £8M for him. aren't they potless, at least they always claim to be. if they have a large debt then this may just be paper talk ( like all transfer "news" in there ). i think the realistic figure for him, unless one of the big boys come calling, is nearer £4M, can't see a championship player going for more than that nowadays.
In the real world no championship player is worth more than that, but football doesn't revolve in the real world hence Leeds wanting 8mil for Snodgrass last summer lol. I will be amazed if we get to the end of august and our record transfer fee is still 3.5 we paid for earnshaw all those years ago!
Chelsea are said to be offering silly money for Fellaini! That would pay for Rodriguez with plenty to spare!
