So then the Bench for Saturday: Does Green start over Waggy - Does Euell get in on the Bench and if so who does he replace Pritchard or Benson (in short, bring back the 7 subs)

I just wonder how prolific he would be, as he's been a 3 goal a season player recently, which doesn't make him sound like the type to grab the 89th minute winner (unlike say Waggy).
3 goals a season in how many games?
Euell has played in the Premier League most of his career give or take a season or so in the Championship, he always netted double figures for us in the Premier League, you don't lose that knack of how to score goals.
It's like saying cos Curbs hasn't managed in 3 years now whatever it is that he wouldn't be the same anymore, class is permanent and Euell more than has enough of that for League One

I’ve gone on record before saying that Euell wasn’t really my cup of tea the first time around. However, I concede that his return makes perfect sense…!!
Imo he affords us a different dimension to our attacking play as his strengths are different to those of BWP, Hayes and Benno. At 34 he’s as fit as a flea and is still quick, direct, good in the air and powerful. Imo he’s a great option as our 4th striker/attacking midfielder.
Add to that the fact he knows both the gaffer and the club inside out and is vastly experienced at a much higher level than League One. Throwing all these ingredients together leads me to truly believe he’ll be a real asset to us both on and off the pitch.
With the loss of a vastly experienced old pro like Dailly, I genuinely think it’s an absolute masterstroke on the gaffer’s part in bringing Euell back. After all he enjoyed probably the best years of his career with us playing at the very pinnacle of the English game. What more could you ask for in a mentor/sounding board for the young inexperienced pro’s we already have at the club? He is someone who knows what it takes to succeeded at the very club where these young lads are looking to make a name for themselves…
For me the return of Jason Euell is a win, win situation…
I agree Franco, especially on the fact that 5 subs is actually making managers and tactics work again, thats the point to use your team best in every game, not just have 2 teams you can always fall back on, the risks of not having sun keeper etc etc
More importantly though Euelly will provide composure at this level. I see him like Owen at United, he will be able to come in off the bench or during injuries and not see a drop off in quality, the experience he has will be vital to some of the kids around him whilst there won't be a ridiculous pressure for him to save the day as he was never a prolific goalscorer, but his is a contributor, something he can still do without being the focus of the entire squad

Franco- really well put. Hell Bent agree with you as well on this. The five sub bench will make a move to tactical thinking and we might on certain occasions not have a goalie on the bench. It plays into the hands of the tacticians and the skillful squads rather than the long ball route one teams. The only thing I believe it may do is increase squad rotation. We have a pretty impressive squad and CP will have to play some of these to keep them focuses.
The last time he got 10 goals in a season was 2003/4. With Soton in the Championship he got 3 goals in 41 games (2007-08) then 2 in 24 (2008-09), then 4 in 35 for Blackpool in 2009-10 their promotion season. His best spell was a loan spell last year at Doncaster, 3 in 12.

BWP is the goalscorer that gets us promoted, Euell is another option with Hayes- someone who can drop off the striker but still manage 10 goals+ easily.
If we do not have a goalkeeper on the bench (use Taylor as cover for GK) then we will have three front line keepers at the club and only use only one at weekends?
All Hell, I guess that CP is stioll expecting someone to come in for Rob. My guess is the championship and premiership teams that are beginning to receive money for some of their sales will start looking to strengthen their squads. Teams like Leeds who let Schmiechel junior go and bought Lonegan may well be looking to reinforce their bench with a capable no 2. They might have to come to an agreement with Mcdonalds though as part of the transfer fee.
I'll reserve judgement until I see how good he still is. I can't see him ahead of Benson in the pecking order, and CP will have to find a role for Waggy once Green establishes himself. Remember Charlton's best days were when we had a comparatively small squad.

Hayes was great on Saturday and I can see his partnership with BWP coming to fruition. But now we have Euell, we can bomb Benson out of it. When we were desperate, Benno was our saviour, now we have an extra striker, plus Waggy who can play up front, he is not needed in the first team.
But I don't undertsand this thing about five subs creating better tactics. What were managers doing last season? Just chucking on subs willy nilly? Then again, I forgot about Phi...

I still wouldn't bomb Benson out. I think Euell and Hayes are similar, and allows Benson to step in when BWP out injured/banned etc etc.
If BWP was out for say a month (touch wood he isn't), I wouldn't want a pairing of Hayes and Euell. Needs a Benson there, allow him to stand in the box and collect Green's/Jacksons crosses.

100% agree with you here. Benson will have a role as much as Euell will throughout the season, I think Powell will look into bringing the youth through this season if we start to struggle up front through injury, suspension, etc.
If that fails there is always the loan market. There are some good youngsters out there looking to prove themselves.
I'd be very surprised if, assuming both stay the season, Benson doesn't score more goals than Euell. Even last year, when he didn't play well, he scored 10 goals, and is a more obvious replacement for BWP than Euell, who hasn't played that type of role for years.
