Really wanted Woods when he left Leeds. Hopefully now with EPL experience to balance the extra age he can be a crackling signing in our position. He also gives us something different but is also capable of both covering for Wilson and playing with him. Should be top notch if we go down too.
Tbh I never wanted Jones and most seemed to desperately not want him when Bruce was linked. He has been excellent in his time though so if fit and stays fit like any signings I’ll give him my support and happy to be proven wrong. Alongside a top younger cb (Botman please) could be a master stroke.

Prem experience - 1 in 3/4 striker had a release clause which if you believe the rumours nobody knew about until his agent who just happens to be Trippier's agent spilled the beans and let us know :emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl:

    By 1 in 3/4 I mean 3 or 4 games not every 60 mins <laugh>

    This from G Lineker...

"£25m for a striker who has scored three goals all season and consistently been off the mark. Even if you double that with ‘better service’, you are nowhere near what we will get in return for that money.

    "Newcastle have shot themselves here."

Prem experience yes, but still in a team only one place above us on the same points. Not exactly giving off good vibes for trying to stay up, more like acceptance of relegation and getting in players used to the Championship.

Yeah maybe, but this signing does reek of desperation and I'm really worried for Saturday.

If Wood is signed, plays and we win by 2-3 goals I'll accept I was wrong, just can't see it happening tho.

To be fair fouled and ball kicked out of his hand is hardly a howler.

That's the plan. I'll have a stab and say Darwin Nunez. Benfica wanting time to find a replacement.

Same with Botman - Lille - need to find a replacement.

buying the better players from teams for less than release clauses needs a bit of give and take. That's the difference between bargain hunting for loans last minute and being pro-active.

Not claiming that through ball cleanly or leaving his line quickly enough is a mistake, not knowing the ball is between your legs in my opinion is a howler. Forum's would be boring if we all had the same opinions on everything.

True we can all have our own opinions. I wouldn’t disagree that’s he hasn’t been great this season I just think calling him a liability is OTT and unfair.

Only thing that's gutting me over this Chris Wood deal is I would have loved video footage of Charnley asking Mike Ashley to make Chris Wood the clubs 2nd most expensive transfer of all time just to see what shade of purple the fat bastard went :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

We need someone in urgently who gets I the box and can hold it up.

I'm interested to see who the next striker is though.

That wasn't from Lineker. It was in the same Chronicle article, but was a quote attributed to a random Burnley fan on Twitter. Burnley fans seem mixed on this signing - the majority view seems to be that he's worth far less and many are happy as long as they sign a replacement or two with the funds we are giving them. I have read some saying he is well out of form and has been poor this season with suggestions that he has been wasting multiple decent goalscoring chances per game. Others are bemoaning losing him.

I think they may have a point. He hasn't been good for them this season and we have just given them a bucket load of money to find someone better. However, we are desperate and needed a striker in asap and his release clause made it an easy acquisition for us to have a striker in time for the next game. It could well be a deal that helps both clubs in the long run (apart from the aspect of anything that helps either of us hurts the other as we are rivals in this fight).

I am hoping the move and new challenge gives him the spark he seems to have been missing and he goes on a goal spree in his upcoming games for us in the second half of the season. It doesn't really matter what he does after that as, despite the money involved, he is a short term signing.

Welcome and good luck Chris Pappis Woods!!
