Shame it's another loan but needs must with FFP I doubt were able to push the boat out too much in January to sign players required for a promotion push. I don't know much about the lad but from what I've read and heard I would say he's exactly the kind of player we need....we've seen when either Broadhead or Burns are injured or out of form we lack alternatives to liven things up and really take the game to the opposition. We now have both Sarmiento and Hutchinson who can do this
We can’t be anywhere close to the FFP threshold. We have huge gate receipt, TV and merch revenue and most of our lads are on League One wages.
I think you're probably right however we are suddenly now fishing in a very different ocean, especially in this transfer window, we're now looking at players who can get us to and potentially play in the PL that's not small money and even if we had that money do we risk upsetting the squad by paying someone alot more than anyone else is getting? This is a really tough window to get right.
If we have aspirations to be a regular prem team, then we're eventually going to have to pay silly money on both wages and transfer fees. The majority of our players are nowhere near premiership quality, so as I've mentioned, bigger fees will need to be paid to attract top quality players
As PTC says, we may be swimming in a very different ocean next season. Big fish to buy cost big money.

I think quite a few would be able to in the right environment. Many said they doubted whether alot of the players were Championship quality they have unreservedly proved they are to a level no other team has before them. The records broken and the stats on the pitch tell us this. If we are fortunate enough to get to the PL for me it's evolution not revolution with this team, especially if we get there this season those players deserve their chance.
I don’t believe we need to be spending £20m a player, but this transfer window is the very most crucial one and we need to buy a deadly striker or it’s the lottery of the play offs for us. Where is our academy talent?
I don't know the exact details but taking from something McKenna said in an interview, we are subject to pretty stringent FFP rules as a promoted club.
I know you hate loans, and we had fewer in League One, but as McKenna has also said, the cost to buy the quality of player we need now is far higher and some that we can get on loan are certainly too expensive for us to buy outright. This is life in the Championship, you have to supplement your squad with the quality needed through loans because you can't buy them all!
You see, I don't really believe in this 'you're a team full of League One players' nonsense. There's really no such thing. Were we a team full of League One players last season? No, we were a team of people playing in League One. Now we're in the Championship, are we a team of Championship players? No, we're a team of people playing in the Championship. Players can be coached to adapt and learn the skills required to play at a higher level and you hope that they improve. We don't need to spend vast sums of money to get quality, it's out there in every league. You just have to find the right ones.
On top of what San Diego pointed out above, we’ve also been quite fortunate in retaining a lot of our players. For instance, this season we retained something like 90% of our first team squad (I can’t recall the specific stat, but it was in that ballpark and it was the highest in the Championship).
Add to the fact that we have recruited heavily over the last three years to bring in the right calibre of player. We also haven’t yet cashed in on someone like a Davis or a Chaplin for significant profit. So I can see why we’d be quite close to the FFP spending restriction.
This contradicts your previous comment, but I agree with it. We don’t need any loans or big money signings. If we could so easily sign the quality of Chaplin, Morsy, Burns, Hladky, Davis and the rest of them in League One we should have no bother at all making a couple of permanent signings now. Something is very off about it.
That summer 2021 transfer window was an incredible window, has to go down as one of our best ever I'd also imagine at any club. Plus we didn't have half the backroom staff we did now.
Imagine if we signed players with the quality of Walton, Hladky, Burgess, Chaplin, Burns and Morsy for under £3 million in this transfer window!!

I think it's less to do with finances and attractiveness, more to do with squad size and filling particular roles.
2021 was a complete rebuild with what a critical eye might call a scattergun approach. I feel the past 3 windows have been far more targeted.
Edwards - Scarlett - Sarmiento is my lead example (yet to see if Sarmiento can surpass Edwards), but I also think Taylor was brought in as "Luongo", Tuanzabe was probably supposed to upgrade Woolfenden (all credit to Woolfenden for not making that easy)
So, I hope McKenna saying he wants to keep the squad together only stretches as far as the main 11 because I think it's a matter of "upgrading".
Ball, Aluko, Jackson need upgrading in my opinion , Hirst too now if he's going to be out for the long term (Though as closing point, he started as a loan so it can work well as a try before you buy approach.)

Good points Mike I'd say both Luongo and Tuanzebe were opportune/gamble signings with relative low risk given their injury records and shortness of contracts given. If they came/come off brilliant, if they don't play regularly it wasn't a huge loss.
Unfortunately under the Evans era it wasn't just the squad they had to fill it was the first team. Some of those players weren't ready or of the quality but at the same time I'm sure the majority of those players would do much better coming into the environment and team we have now.
