January Transfer Window

Both Jake Jervis (yes please !) and Nicky Shorey (not sure to be honest) are currently training with Pompey, with Richie Barker running his eye over them.

As Shorey is a left back, where does that leave Marcos Painter one wonders ?

Fulham youngster Sean Kavanagh is attracting interest from Portsmouth, according to Talksport.

The Republic of Ireland Under-19 left-back is currently injured and it is claimed that Pompey will look to sign him on loan when he returns to fitness.

Kavanagh, 19, was brought over from Irish club Belvedere and signed his first professional contract at Craven Cottage in 2011.

Another left back, eh ?

So, we have signed both Jake Jarvis and Nicky Shorey until the end of the season. Great news !!

Shaun Cooper has been released. Shame really, as he is a useful player to have on the books, being able to play virtually anywhere in defence, as well as central midfield. Seems to be a bit injury prone though.

There again, Marcos Painter is also a bit susceptible to injury, so will RB extend his contract beyond this month ?

Who's next to arrive or depart on the Fratton Park merry-go-round :)

Just read that we have signed another striker - 25 year old Ryan Taylor, from Bristol City - 6'2" tall, ex Rotherham player, but apparently not a prolific goalscorer.

not sure about Painter, very on and off and prone to injury, very pleased with today's signings......all of them

Young Dan Butler must be wondering what's going on! If he's not yet good enough for the first team (as RB keeps bringing in/looking at left backs) then why isn't he out on loan? It seems crazy just to keep a player like him, who still has a fair amount to learn as his performances have shown this season, on the bench, or, as has happened almost all the time since September, out the match day squad.

Poor Dan has suffered a cruciate injury whilst on loan at Aldershot so is out injured for a while. He will be back, as he is one for the future.

I thought Butler was injured. Googling it we get this story from the News on December 9th http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/butler-to-learn-extent-of-knee-injury-1-5736362 saying he had knee ligament damage and his Twitter account has this from January 8th: Six weeks since I injured my knee- got a while to go until I'm fit but getting these days back is what's keeping me motivated

I can't begin to imagine how much knee injuries must hurt, it hurts like billy-o when you just knock it sometimes. I hope you are feeling better very soon MAJR.

Sources in the north suggest James Harper, the former Doncaster winger who has apparently just been released by the Yorkshire club, is on manager Richie Barker's wanted list.

33 years of age, plenty of experience. Was a superb player when at Reading - presumably one of Steve Coppell's recommendations ?

Torquay have signed former Bournemouth and Portsmouth defender Shaun Cooper in new manager Chris Hargreaves' first permanent signing at Plainmoor.

The versatile 30-year-old has signed until the end of the season, with the option of an extra year.

its great news for us........... RB has certainly strengthened the squad..........now we need to push on and get up the table a bit <ok>

As long as we go on the attack tomorrow; from the very start; we could/should win this one.

Hope Jake Jervis is fit enough to start the match. Can't wait to see the new boys - Jervis/Taylor/Fogden/Shorey & Alfei play.

He probably got chatting to other players when he was in the England under 19 squad earlier this season, and bearing in mind they were possibly from Premier League teams, they turned his head with talk about the kind of money they were earning, and the flash cars they were driving !

Jed comes across as a nice level headed lad, but it must be tempting to try and improve himself with the thought of earning a fortune compared to what he is on at the moment.

I hope he stays with us until at least the end of the season.

If, in the extremely unlikely situation, we get promoted this season, do you think Jed will stay?

He appeared willing to sign a new deal on the eve of the new season, and at the start of the season, so I'm trying to think what's changed?

Maybe it's the fact that he doesn't want to hang around in league Two with us for much longer (most likely). Maybe he's been tapped up by another club (Brighton seem to have kept very, very close tabs on him). I'm just trying to think of what's made him change his mind so drastically in the space of only a few months.

Anyway I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow. We really should beat this lot at home, but let's wait and see what happens! .. PUP!

I don't know how true this is but someone who knows him said that he wants to be able to buy a house for his dad, so he can stop having to work on building sites. To do this he will need to earn a decent wage and at the moment he is one of the lower earners at the club. A reasonable ambition to be fair. The last I heard is that Catlin will start new negotiations with him once January is over.
