Essien was a truly gifted player with an engine like a train. Going to Spain was the undoing of him, easy going training has left him half the player he was. Always looks like a disaster waiting to happen when he has played for Chelsea this season. 2 years ago and yes he would have great but not so sure now.
 
We have been linked to simon makienok according to Danish reports. He currently plays for Brondby and from his you tube flips is a target man, plays up front and is 6 ft 7. Looks tidy for a tall guy, good feet and obviously wins his far share of headers.

This story is now being pushed in the Danish media. One article is worth posting if only because of the automatic translator's versatile imagination about the status of Berbatov at the Club:

Twice this summer was Brondby striker Simon Makienok close to a move away club. First accepted Brondby a massive bid from the Russian club Terek Grozny, but Makienok thanked itself no. On the last day of the transfer window came Crystal Palace as on the field and would hire Makienok, but the Premier League club got no Brøndby.

In the coming month is set for a transfer thriller about Makienok. All indications are that at least a concrete bid for national team striker, and Brøndby will find it difficult to hold on to him.

According bt.dk's information has Fulham inquired on the price of Makienok with a loose contact. Fulham have previously Brondby coach Rene Meulensteen as new manager, and he's looking for more attacks reinforcements. If Berbatov does stay, then he needs a new partner up front because it has not worked out with Bryan Ruiz, and Darren Bent has not done the business this season, which is very strange.
They need a top-class striker to play in front of Berbatov, and they will be looking for someone who can pinch some goals, and hold up the ball too. Basically to play up there on his own if needs be.
Bent does play up front on his own, but the problem with him is that he does not give you anything in general play.
The Cottagers' other problem area for me is centre-back because they do not look strong in that position. They leak a lot of goals and they have got a soft centre.

Bobby, I think you are being a bit tight there just offering Ruiz, at least throw in Senderos !!!!

I'd take both Heitinga and Essien in a second, but I've read that Michael Bradley from Roma is looking for a move to Fulham, Cardiff or Southampton.

He's a young, talented and hard-working midfielder who managed 20+ goals one year in the top Dutch league, but while I'd love to see another American grace pitch at The Cottage, I can't see him displacing either Sidwell or Parker any time soon. He's bigger, stronger and faster than either Sidwell or Parker, but the pace of the EPL tends to catch most continental players out so I can't see how he'd help us in the short term.

Much as I would like another hard-working midfielder at the Cottage, DR, the thought of another one from the Dutch League fills me with dread. Ruiz was from there and, not to put too fine a point on it, he's crap. Well, he is here, out there he was amazing, so the gulf in quality between the Dutch and English leagues must be huge.

I know Suarez came from Holland but he is quite exceptional.

Bradley has since moved from the Dutch league to Roma who are unbeaten in the league so far so it's not like we're buying him straight from the Dutch league. I'd take Bradley in a heartbeat, he's young(ish), works hard, can tackle and more importantly pass. He needs game time coming into the world cup so I think he'd be a perfect fit.
 
we defo need a CB. Heitinga would be great, why is he leaving Everton. I thought he was better than most in that position.

Not sure about the midfield selection that have been mentioned. Essian wouldn't bring the average age down of the team!

Heitinga hasn't been getting games and wants to keep his place in the Holland team for the World Cup. Unfortunately for him, Jagielka and Distin have been pretty solid all season and his contract is up in the summer so I think he's available for cheap.

Suarez is hardly a one off, Van Nistelrooy came from Holland Van Persie came from Holland as well I would take either of them right now, even Bony at Swansea has scored 8 goals this season despite missing 6 weeks with injury! Just because there have been a few players not make it doesn't mean we should never look at that market again!

I think Van Nistelrooy is almost from a previous age of players, albeit a quite recent one but yes, he was a great goalscorer. Van Wolfswinkle & Fer have both been less than stellar, Bony has done okay, although 2 of his 8 were in the last match, but he has a respectable total.

Robben was good but the guy who came as his foil, Kezman, I think, wasn't great. 105 goals in 122 games in the Dutch league - 4 for Chelsea. Van der Mayder (Everton) was pretty poor, same goes for Heitinga, who can't get a game.

Given this, I'd be very,very war of anyone who comes from that league.
 
The Dutch league is very hit and miss, for every Suarez there's a Kezman, every van Nistelrooy a Ruiz, lots of Fulham fans are upset that we let Danny Hoesen go and he's doing well at Ajax but I reckon that's because the Dutch league is a lot less physical which suits that type of player, he wouldn't do so well here in my opinion.

In fairness though we did sign Dembele from there, he turned out fairly well.
 
A yes to Bradley, Heitinga and Essien for me. Alfred Finnbogason would be another I'd quite like. Also, although very controversial, send back bent and bring in Robbie Keane.
