Saw something earlier about a shock signing and asked, shock as in to Saints fans? Champions fans? English fans? The reply was English fans.
Fourth Official hasn't got anything right on Saints so far, his predictions in the summer were about as wrong as humanly possible.
Mm not sure on Okaka. Seems to be riding the ridiculous hype he got as a youngster despite not yet actually being very good.
If he was that good Fulham would have showed more interest in him. So no thanks. But I would like Hooper.
Although Adkins is probably not infallible, I'm willing to give any signing a chance as Nigel may see something we don't. He's designing a team and has now had a decent amount of time to see our requirements.
You're so right Matt. Wind the clock back a few years and there were Scots playing in most top flight teams who were proper players (Dalglish, Strachan, Hansen, Jordan etc). Now, the cream of the SPL seems to struggle in English football generally. I can't think of many recent success stories from: Ferguson to Blackburn, Maloney to Villa, MacDonald and Boyd to Boro. Generally speaking, players from the SPL find their level beneath the top flight these days. The Old Firm are far more used to dealing with championship clubs than PL clubs in the transfer market! Interesting summary here: http://eurorivals.net/abroad/scottish-players-in-england.html
These 2 are far off the mark. How many English teams have won the UEFA or Europa League in the past 10 years? How many have been finalist? Celtic have qualified for the CL several times and put up a good show. They were in the UEFA/Europa final just a few years ago. So no they don't constantly get knocked out by minnows. No more than a mediocre premier league side and you can't say they aren't going to win it any time soon because they have come as close as the premier league sides have to winning it in recent years!!! Weigh that up. Are Saints going to get into europe at all next year? The year after? If Hooper comes to us it won't be because we have more of a draw clubwise than Celtic. Celtic is one of those romantic historical names. The first british club to win the European Cup. The huge following. Akin to Liverpol in England. If Hooper does see Southampton as an attractive option it will be because of Adkins. Not all players go for glory, success, money!!! Sharp has turned down the money. Le Tissier turned down the glory moves and the money. Many other players think of more than just money and medals when making career decisions. Rare they may be but not all are mercenaries.
Impsaint...you and I know we will probably not be in Europe for a few years at least, but let's not tell Cortese whilst he has a knife in the piggy bank. Also agree that we have no need to disrespect Celtic..what will be, will be.
The key maybe if Hooper is on £10k as suggested and could double his wages by moving. Sometimes money talks. Not always, but often. For every 1 example where it hasn't talked, there will be 20 where it has.
The person that phoned 606 and said Hooper would hand in a transfer request on Monday is probably just as much in the know as us...
any "fan" who rings into 606 and the like are weirdos. Football phone-ins peaked about 10 years ago, now they are just dominated by plastics, manic depressives and attention seekers.
it's like those that listen to the game on Solent and then phone in and describe the Saints performance based on what they heard on the radio..... I drive home some times thinking I was at a different game!
NOt strictly true, he was wrong about Maynard but said we'd sign Fox about 4 hours before it was announced...
I always like how they make a big point about someone texting in and agreeing with expert summarizer Dave Merrington, but of course they're going to agree with him as his opinion is the only window they have into the game!
