Burnley journo reckons us and Ipswich are interested but he will stay with clarets til the summer at least! Options narrowing if we rule out maynard/sharp and boro get Jukey!
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7401850/Sharp-has-1.85m-release-clause Looks like it's £1.85m for Sharp, not £3m. If the queue for him wasn't long enough already....(whether or not we're in that queue, and Solent believe we aren't, is another matter) To be honest, lots of clubs could pay that sort of money for a striker to sit on their bench.
SkySports recon that Sharps release clause is £1.85m not £3m. How could we not be interested in him (as Solent have apparently said) at that price, regardless of whether he is interested in moving to us or not. SS have also said that we are in for Jutkiewicz... So that's us been linked to all the usual suspects already then.
£5m for Rodriguez is ridiculously too high. I've not heard anything of him this season. Billy Sharp's scored goals aplenty to date this season, despite the off the field problems he's gone through. Although, with that, I don't think he'd want to move south, especially as he was reluctant to in the summer, before his sons tragic death.
Dunno whether Rodriguez is worth 5m at present, but his goal scoring form this season is comparable to Sharp's
At £1.85 million we'd be daft not to get involved in signing Billy Sharp. Unless Cortese and Adkins already have something up there sleeve.
But also you have to remember that Rodriguez is one of 2 strikers playing for a mid-table side (Charlie Austin has more goals than him so far) whereas Sharp plays for Doncaster as a lone striker.
I think Saints will go for Lukas. 1) Hes a Saints fan 2) Already knows what the saints are about. 3) Will be cheap because of Coventry's poor financial position. (only around 2mil) 4) Won't need to get into a bidding war for wages with prem clubs (at the moment) But i would still like to see another striker to add pace which Lukas and Lambert don't have.
Ha Sky Sport have the same idea lol http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7401859/Saints-back-in-for-Jutkiewicz
Although Rodriguez isn't quite the clinical finisher that Sharp is, he is quite good in the air, fairly quick and links up play effectively. That last one is especially important as the way we play, the strikers need to be involved in both creative and attacking phases of play. David Connolly is very good at it when he's fit.
I don't think Rodriguez is any better than Jutkiewicz, and Lukas would be available for a much cheaper fee i'd imagine.
Any player will be better for being at Saints if he is sufficiently talented, works hard, and willing to be a team player.
I'd imagine you'd be right. I can't see Coventry holding out for a stupiud amount. But they'd both surely be more expensive than the £1.85m for Sharp, so I really can't see us going for either of them if we really are not interested in Sharp, as Solent say. (Why on would choose them over the cheaper, and in my opinion, better Sharp?)
