Defoe signing would be brilliant but I can't see him dropping down to Championship....compared to Maynard and Sharp etc he's a Ferrari and they're Skoda's

Ipswich have just said they won't pay 3 million for Sharp, unless you're being sarcastic!

Still prefer Sharp to Maynard though either could do a job here. Good quick able to cross the ball winger would be nice as well.

If we match other team's wages and bids we are the most attractive option.

    Agreed, apart from possibly location.

Pretty sure Maynard will end up in the Prem, and maybe Sharp will aswell as they both aren't being sold for extortianate fees. Hopefully I'm wrong and we get one of them.

Well im sure its more attractive for either sharp or maynard to have a regular starting spot in our squad opposed to consistent benches for a lower prem team!!

Well if you don't rate them as good enough to start for Wigan/Bolton/Blackburn then why would you want them? As surely we should be looking for players who can help us in the Prem

I really rate Sharp and would love to sign him. But thinking long term out of the two I think Maynard is more likely to be a success in the Premiership.

Unfortunately I don't think Sharp has the speed or physical presence to make an impact. I'd love to be proven wrong though as I've been a fan of his for a long time.

Sordell looks a very promising striker. I'd be very happy with any of the three mentioned but I fear prices will sky rocket this January as so many teams are looking to offload or strengthen for a number of different reasons. Us to continue a promotion push, Leicester with Pearson back in charge, Prem teams desperate to stay in the top league: Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves etc.

With Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal rumoured to be dipping into the market as well think it might turn into a real crazy window.

Actually, extortionate fees are being demanded. This doesn't mean that they'll be paid particularly for a player who is out of contract in a few months. There are also not too many examples of PL teams taking a punt on players from lower divisions that paid off straight away but plenty where they didn't so only those that are in the bottom half are likely to get involved. If we were in competition with them, the choice is, maybe six months PL football followed by Champ again versus maybe six months Champ in a winning team followed by PL football.

Put like that, what would they do? Go to who pays them most I expect <laugh>

Thank you for summing up what I was trying to say much better than I have :D. My whole point is if a PL team comes in for one of them then they have 6 months of PL football minimum where they may be able to impress and prove they can play at that level, and if the team does go down, and another PL team doesn't come in for them, they will be in a side which has more of a chance of getting back to the PL than Donny or Bristol City do at the moment. Where as a move to Saints is 6 months of Championship football which will hopefully end in promotion, and given that neither of them to my knowledge have any affinity towards Saints I just can't see them joining us if any Prem team comes in.

I honestly think it's the other way around (although maybe I'm biased, because I really am such a huge Sharp fan). If you know where the back of the net is - which Sharp does - I think you can be a success in any league. Look at Lambert, look at Holt.

Maynard however, from what I have seen of him, is much more about pace. Now as great an asset as that is, particularly on the break in the Premiership, he'll be up against some of the best defenders and best goalkeepers in the land. He's unlikely to get 5 - 10 chances a match, so he needs to be clinical with what he gets - and I don't think he is. I was never, ever convinced that Beckford could do it in the Premiership, because I didn't see him as a natural goalscorer, and so I wasn't surprised in the slightest to see him fail at Everton.

Why are people talking about 6 months of Championship or PL football, there's only 4 months left of this season.
