LOVED that mad bastard. Remember him getting sent off in his (only) u23 game for a headbutt. Wondered WTF we had signed
When he muscled Yaya Toure off the ball against Man City was when I knew we had a player on our hands. Actually, that might have been Kone...I don't remember now. Loved them both though. Kone just turned sour. Was Kone...just checked. Ignore this.
I do not have a clue if JD is coming or not, and honestly I am not that bothered: what I do think us important is that we do sign a decent striker in the next few days!
Speak Sunderland (no idea if reliable) have said there's an announcement tonight at 6pm. @Prehab26 @Wheatsheaf you heard anything similar...or made up bullshit you think?
He's exactly the type of player we need - covers the ground, breaks the play up and lays it off to the ball players and the runners. He made it look so simple.
I recall that moment.... it was probably his best moment for Sunderland... Ya Ya looked bemused at what happened, not used to getting out muscled.
The best window was when we signed Benjani on loan after the deadline, lied about a broken fax machine then found him to be so immobile you could’ve painted him silver and made more use of him at the Edinburgh Festival
I’ve heard we are short of his demands but he wants to come to Sunderland. So there’s a chance he could drop them.
If League One money is still a motivator for Defoe then good luck to him at Oxford. I'd be amazed if we weren't offering a decent wedge though
To be honest, if he’s being offered daft cash by league one standards, which really won’t be that much even compared to what he was no doubt on at Rangers and that’s his primary motivation, then fine. No point being held sentimentally to ransom.
I'll be very surprised if it's League 1 money at this stage in his career. How much can we be talking about over what period of time to a man who's already got to be very, very wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.....makes no sense to me.
