I assume loan contracts are like any other, you can't just change your mind when something better (or worse) comes along. Soooo...

Loans are terminated all the time by one party or another... I think it all depends on what is written in the contract. I don't know in this case if there is or isn't a get out clause.

Use Allen as a make weight? And still be left short of numbers while gambling on another new signing?

We need a defensive midfielder. Allen has been used in a defensive role by Rodgers just like Gerrard has... we've seen how successful both have been.

Allen is a decent backup player but not really first team quality. Even though it will still leave us low on numbers... replacing a squad player with someone that can play first team is a positive move.

We would then have two defensive first team midgieldrrs... Lucas + whoever we sign... and for a more advanced role Gerrard, Henderson... maybe Coutinho.

Who would buy Aspas if he's as bad as you think he is?
..

He got a number of admirers last season... I think some Spanish teams might still maintain interest in him.

I don't think he is terrible, just not suited to the premier league.

We probably couldn't do every suggestion I made above- I'm merely pointing out that instead of throwing in the towel and saying "sorry no money, have to be content with staying outside top 4," there are options that the club could look into to raise money for a cdm.

If we were willing to spend £10 mil on Salad, in a position we're not desperate for... there is a minimum of £10 mill in coffers... most likely more.

A payment plan, paying x amount now and x amount later could potentially be set up.

Borrow from Summer's budget.

Round up:

The boss confirmed that while there is to be no immediate incoming transfer activity at Anfied, he remains hopeful of adding to the ranks.

Rodgers told journalists at Melwood: "There's nothing as of yet.

"There have obviously been targets we've looked at, but there's nothing imminent.

"We've looked at a number of players. I'll not give away any names, I'll never do that.

"We'll just see what the window brings for us. We're in the market for players to help the squad and if we can bring them in then great."

Journalists quizzed Rodgers on whether news of injuries to defenders such as Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger would force a re-think of his transfer strategy for January.

He replied: "We've got a lot of defenders and I'm not sure we need many more in - my first look will always be towards the young players.

"The likes of Jon Flanagan are coming back and hopefully one or two of the others might not be too far away. I wouldn't say we need any more defenders in."

Oh tooobbbbeeeesssss.....

Roberto Martinez hopes the Falcao injury doesn't blow his transfer plans http://mirr.im/1mLcGWM

Basically, with that injury, Traore will probably need to play and no longer go to Everton. But Traore and Lukaku are really similar in style? Not sure why he would want to giants up top with his style of play?

Chelsea FC‏@chelseafc·8 mins
Agreement reached with FC Basel for the transfer of Mohamed Salah. http://che.lc/QlrU9J #CFC

This feels a bit like the Willian one where we thought we were in for a shout, then spurs came along, then suddenly Chelsea bought him!

No that one was crazy!

No doubt he'll regret it, he may get games but he won't be playing every game, especially with the likes of Hazard, Oscar, Willian and even Schurlle.

A lot of competition for sure.

#LFC wanted to sign Salah in Jan but never made an official bid and failed to agree a fee with Basel. Good signing for #CFC

I'll wait to see what the fee was for him first before slagging Rodgers and the committee off.
