He would have been a very good signing IMO. That first six months he was brilliant and that season was the one where we were in the mix until the new year and dropped off after winning the League Cup, maybe Jelavic's goals could have been a catalyst for us to do better? Plus, they only paid £6m for him didn't they? I would imagine they will get most if not all of that back anyway.
Remember this? http://blueroom.evertonfc.com/forum/discussion/10917/would-you-swap-jelavic-for-suarez/p1 (The OP originally read "Would you trade Jelavic for Suarez?")
Not saying he's a bad player. More the fact he wouldn't have been a good enough solution for us. For a team like Hull, Cardiff or West Brom etc he'd be ideal, because once he's given games he'll most likely start scoring again.
I wanted him at the time, his record at Rangers was 30 gls in 45 (thanks Wiki). I rem at the time thinking it was a good record even for the Scottish league but for whatever reason we didnt get him so that was that I just remember some fans going mad that we didnt
Are we going to compare every transfer from this moment to Carroll? Downing for £20m was a bargain compared to that, it's not a good barometer of anything!
Stupid question because it's an obvious answer. Neither are/were good enough for us. Btw - Suarez for £24m.
No, I very rarely compare signings, I said this one purely because that link was Everton fans discussing Jelavic or Suarez. I think Everton's signing of Jelavic was a good one despite him being poor for a while because he was such an influence when he arrived. I'd have been happy with him at Liverpool. I also thought they (Carroll and Jelavic) had joined each team at the same time but having just checked they were a year apart.
It is a stupid question, but so is dismissing the signing of Jelavic when it was a measly £6m and he bagged 9 in 13 in that first six months! Those goals could have given us the lift we needed to finish higher in the table, maybe even when the FA Cup since we were so close!
