Spurs & Chelsea were willing to pay for Willian but we weren't. Does that mean he was overpriced or were we yet again trying to pay an unrealistic amount for a player? It even happened with Suarez when we bid £12m for him and they were so furious that we were bidding so low they nearly stopped negotiating with us. And my problem with all the other players is we spent months going after them. Salah, Mkhitaryan etc and other teams came in straight away and got them within a week.
Mkhitaryan and Willian were more or less agreed, both dragged it out to see if a better option would come along and in both instances, it did!
We didn't even bid for Mkhitaryan IIRC, we were too busy negotiating for months amongst ourselves what his price might be. I think their chairman came out & said we hadn't put a bid in. Then we act all surprised when someone else tries to buy him, even though he scored 29 goals from midfield last season. The taking your time tactic might work for players like Coutinho, Sturridge, Aspas etc who weren't wanted but it doesn't for top European players like Mkhitaryan, Willian, Salah etc where you're competing with other top clubs.
look this is all supposition. Thats my view and I cannot tell whats what one way or the other. Rodgers say one thing one week and another another week. On salah my view is he'd have been better off saying out loud the facts. If we bid we bid... if we did not we did not. easy. Everyone is supposing one way or the other depending on their point of view, whether they want to defend the club, knock the club or just plain wondering whats going on. The only facts in the Salah case we can list are related entirely to press reporting. I cannot even say we had a scout at his games or if ayre ever met anyone etc example: Salah mentioned as target as least as early as november.. I am not search back further but you might tell me anyone? Salah is talked about on many occasions all through december LFC fans don't seem to notice but Salah to chelsea rumours are in december also. fees discussed range for 7 million to 16 million. It is reported chelsea are close to Salah signing. Mourinho states clearly chelsea are sending people to switzerland for medical as player is non eu and would need visa to come to chelsea for medical Rodgers says the comments in the OP about the player and to effect we'll see Salah signs for chelsea for a REPORTED 11million now the supposition. there is nothing at all about an LFC bid confirmed or otherwise. There is however an overwhelming body of reporting assuming lfc are getting this player There is a comment right at the death from rodgers suggesting lfc were doing "something" One can only guess from there. One supposition is the player had a choice and chose chelsea, another is that basel never agreed a fee with us, another is we never actually bid. In the end until something is known for sure we'll all guess and stick in our respective camps. I am firmly in the camp of i don't know, i don't much care cos I feel I know what we really need and am waiting for actual results.
There are two things we do know for sure though MITO. First is that none of those players ended up at Anfield, instead we wasted over £20 million on three players who've given us a handful of appearances between them this year (Aspas, Alberto and Ilori). The second thing we know is that our squad is weaker than all those around us (bar Everton) despite bringing in 7 new heads in the summer. That begs the question of how many we'd need to bring in this summer just to tread water when we know all those around us certainly won't stand still? This begs the further question of why aren't we adding to the squad in this window? Whether we bid for them or not Rodgers admitted his interest in both Mikhitaryan and (ridiculously) Salah as well. Now I'm not going to have a go at BR or the club if they are missing out on targets who want to play CL footy (or earn a small fortune to sit on the chavs bench) as I appreciate we are at a disadvantage compared to the clubs they went to. However I will have a go at them if we aren't using the best opportunity in years to try and get that CL spot. Then we are going to spend next summer trying to rebuild a team without the allure of the CL to attract the better players. It's a vicious circle and this IS without doubt our best chance to break it.
yes that is a fact. I have also said as much. none were signed but our squad was supposedly supplemented early in the summer period with aspas and alberto, then late with ilori Our team really only added Toure and mingolet and sahko as first team contenders/starters. Rodgers has said now this window he's only looking for lads that will impact the first team. However you are right, aspas in particular, moses quite a bit and while alberto and ilori can be called future players (perhaps) ALL are not trusted to get on a pitch for LFC and deliver anything. I would have to agree that as a strategy, even as late as november when suarez signed a contract the club needed to sit down and look at the big picture historically. SPurs nightmare, utd nightmare 4th wide open. 25mil in an account.. double it as policy from FSG. instruct to not go penny pinch but do find the guys to ENSURE, not hope for be ensure 4th is taken. thats the kind of guys we all hope run our club. aspas is not good enough to play for fulham or cardiff down in the botom 5... let alone a top 4 club. Actions and results count, nothing else. FSG AND ROdgers will be judged on their results and a playerless window will be a big factor in that judging one feels. I do have to say on an ending positive note. before our club would have been seen as a joke, on the slide. we should be viewed at this point as a club on the up. so if we turn up and offer the right wages and money players should be queueing up.
and replace luis billy, that is going to be the worst thing to come out of this, as no chance are we going to attract his type of talent without cl football to this club, we have wages thing in place that put a lot of players off now days as well.
Worse still is that we won't be able to attract as many players when Suarez leaves, he's the only thing at our club that has that superstar factor and would sway a player to join us when their heart is set on CL. Yes we have history bla bla, but no CL, no high wages and no Suarez is not that attractive to the big names we will need
indeed, lets hope brendan has an early easter present for us by the end of the window. seriously i want to know where all the fecking money is going in this club as we need players.
Monday's Liverpool transfer stories from other newspapers and websites The Reds have turned their attentions to Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler to replace the sidelined Lucas Leiva. And according to Italian newspaper The Roma, the Serie A side are willing to negotiate, should Daniel Agger be part of the deal. Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is keen to reunite with the Danish defender - who he took to Anfield back in 2006 - but faces competition from Galatasaray boss Roberto Mancini. However, Liverpool are likely to negotiate a swap-deal for Inler, who has already represented Switzerland 67 times at age of 29. Another potential late recruit for Rodgers is Rayo Vallecano teenage midfielder Saul Niguez. The 19-year-old was linked with Manchester United recently but Liverpool scouts went to cast an eye over him against Atletico Madrid last night, according to the Daily Mail. However, the feedback may not be all-that positive, as Niguez endured a torrid evening, in an unfamiliar centre-back role. He was booked and scored an own goal in the La Liga clash following Liverpool's meeting with his father last week. The teenager has an £8million buyout clause and Atleti would be willing to listen to offers that come their way. Rodgers also looks set to go head-to-head with United for midfielder Fernando, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola. The Porto man is wanted by Liverpool but David Moyes remains keen and is reportedly close to sealing a deal. Fernando's contract is set to expire this summer, and while Everton and AC Milan are all admirers, the two old rivals are set to vie for his signature. According to the same paper, the Reds have registered an interest in Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes. His current club have slapped a â¬15million price tag on the 20-year-old but Liverpool could be set to meet that valuation as they look to improve their options in the engine room. Gomes has progressed through the ranks at Benfica and has also been linked with Manchester City, with his current club looking to improve their finances by cashing in.
utter rot... moyes is linked now to every player i nthe world having got mata... fernando i doubt registers... but if were interested i'd be maazed
he at least had europa football to come to, we don't even have that yet! we lose luis we are more ****ed than you seem to think we are.
Meanwhile, Victor Moses has intimated that he is planning to use his performance against Bournemouth in the FA Cup as the catalyst to try and secure a permanent deal at Anfield. The on-loan Chelsea winger opened the scoring for the Reds as they beat the Championship side in the fourth round on Saturday afternoon. Moses has struggled during his stay, but said he is looking to use the display against the Cherries to propel him towards a long-term contract. "[The performance] was really important; I know I haven't been myself for the past few weeks," Moses told the club's official website. i hope not ffs.
life will go on... players age and are replaced over time. the world will not end wit the end of torres, gerrard or saurez nor did it with dalglish. btw... europa... nobody cares oh and this year europa is could to go to 7th (if city deliver in the cup final v sunderland and to p4 play for fa cup final)
of course players care about the europa as its a catalyst to show case your talents and try and help your team to get in the cl or get noticed by clubs so they get a move to cl clubs. a player would rather go to a team who has europa than not. also i should imagine better wages help in that case as well.
I get the feeling you guy have very little money. What does this say for your chances of keeping Suarez in the summer? Sell and invest ( at the right offer ) or keep him and look out for bargains. is it more a case of just filling up the 10 spaces not occupied by Suarez or is the plan to build a team?
