Much rather that than loans. I think this so critical for us. Over the last ten years we have managed to bring in some very decent players for almost no outlay.
Pathetic signing - the wildcard if you like, McCarthy's Larsen Toure, Hurst's Jordan Graham. He last kicked a ball 30.7.2017 F F S - that's an age ago - gotta get fully fit, full tilt etc. I'll always give a player chance to do something, good luck to the lad, you never know. But if I was a betting man, be amazed if he plays more than 250 minutes for us. Absolutely amazed by this.
Not every one of these is going to work out but if we get 3 or 4 rough diamonds like this then out of that one of them will kill it. I'd much rather give minutes to this guy than a loan ( unless it is a very good player of the calibre of Dos Santos / Pennington / Pilkington / Celina / Lawrence etc ) who is going to be going back to his club in May.
Tell you what if Mick had signed a 31 year old Luton rejected who last kicked a ball in a professional game in July 2017 there would rightly be meltdown. I'm absolutely appalled by this ' signing ' - good luck and all, but to me this is Jordan Graham 2.0. From Pilkington, to this. Only in Ipswich Town world. Unreal.
I don't remember anybody criticising Mick's permanent transfers, ever, only the sheer number of loans.
Oh I donno, got a bit of stick for the Hunt brothers, Larsen Toure, others - fair enough really! To me, this signing just smacks absolute desperation - however, as with any signing whether we think ' yeah quality!!! ' or ' ohhhh balls ' we don't know until he's set foot on the pitch. We will see!
Just a random question. I was thinking about our situation at right back. Spence is getting a lot of criticism and it must be affecting his confidence so maybe lambert is looking for a rb. The question I have is when did we last of a good quality rb who would give a 7/10 performance on a regular basis. I’ve been thinking and the last 1 I can come up with is David Wright. Anyone got anyone more recent than that?
I think Donacien could have worked out well there if he had been in the side regularly. Apart from a couple of mistakes I liked what I saw in those opening games. You're absolutely right that it was David Wright. Since then there was Peters filling in, Hewitt and Parr and other oddballs who never really got going. For the most part in Mick's time we played a centre back at full back, which in itself is an absolute disgrace.
Without shadow of a doubt our best RB of late....Dominic I-awful. Had as much positional sense as.....well,,he had zero positional sense
Entire Evans era, no right back. Also now looking as though we have no left back either. I know some people didn’t rate Knudsen but he was a solid round peg in a round hole.
Carlos Edwards, right wing-back?Better than what we've had recently.Still not entirely convincing defensively though!
A converted winger just like Jaime Peters - both of them did a decent job but neither of them were defenders.
Seems we're now in for James Collins again, hope he's less injury prone than when Hurst tried to sign him!!
Woolfy and Collins would make a good pairing next season if he can get himself fit. Do a pay as you play deal for now.
Weird one here - but a guy in the SW supporters club knows Collins brother........ apparently he's been offerd but not yet signed - however, it WILL go through tomorrow......
I don't know if I can see him playing. Who's he gonna drop? Chambo is captain and will never get dropped, but Pennington has been our best defender this season. Surely it's just cover in case of injuries or suspensions. Or maybe bring him on last ten minutes to see a game out?
