Since we signed him we've paid for him to sit on his arse injured, paid for him to play in France and now to paying for him to play for West Ham, that far outweigh's the savings on the 7m. He was a monumental disaster of a signing for us.
That's nonsense. You paid him his multi million £ signing on fee when he arrived. You're now giving him a further £3M to piss off, as obviously no-one is going to pay the £92K per week wages he's on, so you're in essence subsidising his wage packet at WHU for the 18 months he had left on his contract with you lot.
Llorente in talks with Juve. Cavani might leave in the summer, wish we could afford him. Might even keep our little Uruguayan then.
Gary Jacob and Tony Evans did a webchat today and have said that LFC will be looking to get rid of Reina in the summer - due to his form and high wages.
Not sure how I feel on this, he really has not been at his best but nor have we in general. I think he has been pretty loyal and if he left I would be grateful for his time here.
agree bluff, bit silly considering some are saying keep Downing because of his recent good form, Reina has a few bad games and like you said the team have in general, and we want rid, very loyal player who we would be silly to get rid of. i hope this isnt another silly wages issue cut, we have a quality keeper, and anyone who is any good is not going to be on cheap wages.
Yeah, tough one: suppose their logic might be we can have him on his high wages under performing & contributing to a hesitant defence or we can have a young guy on a quarter of those wages doing the same thing with the possibility of improvement. His replacement would have to be at least equivalent to his level now for much lower wages & a fat fee for Reina for it to make any sense at all. On the Joe Cole saga. Out of sight for good and paid is better than around the young ones and being seen to be paid for nothing week in, week out. Getting rid of overpaid has Beens (even despite previous contributions to club) has been the order of this year. By the end of this year we should be left with very few highly paid players who don't deserve that pay now, this moment. That leaves a young & hungry squad with no bad role models lounging around.
No we didn't. You have no clue about his contract or when we paid his signing on fee. Quite often what you say is opinion, which I can appreciate, but this time you're simply wrong.
TBH mate whatever he was on or paid It was a million miles away from what he turned out to be worth but I wouldnt have thought he would of turned out to be that bad for you lot that considered Hodgson bought him to go Into a different system aswell mind...Highly likely Fat Sam will be burnt by him aswell IMO..
Agree with the majority that I think it would be very silly to sell Reina (unless he really wanted to go). During a period of transition, we need to keep our best and most experienced players - especially after we got rid of Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy. However, I don't see Reina leaving because LFC don't want him - Rodgers has constantly said that Reina is a top keeper and suits his style.
Agree with that. Cole has so much quality, but has barely shown any in the last ten years. I thought he might have come around a bit in a new passing system with quick interlink play, but well...he was still ****.
You can't keep selling your best players though and Reina despite early season form is still a class act IMO. Plus if BR wants his keepers to always play it out with their feet then why get rid unless he asks to leave. We might not want to be paying crazy wages to reserve players like Cole but since when did we need to skimp on first teamers wages as well? Has my season ticket price been slashed and I hadn't noticed? We've already slashed the wage bill for the squad (fair enough) but are we now expected to swallow good first teamers to be chopped for wage reasons. If that's the case it will be a slippery slope.
To be fair to Liverpool. None of the wages cuts have been silly. Kuyt, Maxi, Aqualiani, Aurelio, Jovanovic, Poulson, Meireles & Kyrgiakos all needed to go. not one of those players were under the age of 26 when we got rid of them meaning they would have demanded the same pay while their performances went down hill. While I agree that getting rid of Reina is not a good idea (unless we sign a fantastic keeper first. I don't agree that getting rid of him would be another silly wage issue. There were no issue with the others. Not even with Torres if i'm honest, would you have accepted 14 goals in 66 games for £120k a week?
