No chance. Bigger clubs are looking at him. West Ham being one. If we can't compete with Bournemouth for Afobe, we can't compete with established Premiership clubs.

Or alternatively we might find we missed out on a great opportunity. It just like buying a lottery ticket albeit that the price of the ticket is high. Although if you never buy a ticket you never win.

As there's not been a flicker of interest (that we know of) in Grabban, apart from Bournemouth last week, it makes the situation even more bizarre? If we were playing Bournemouth off against A.N.Other, I could understand it.
Not a particularly clever way to get the transfer window into gear.
We could have an extra £7m in the transfer kitty, plus a space in the squad for any new incoming striker readily assured.
I really do hope there's more to it than meets the eye, otherwise it's the biggest 'own goal' the club have scored in my lifetime <yikes>

But as I said, having extra money doesn't suddenly make a player worth it!

That's why i said we obviously wont... i was just clutching at straws as to who we might get to replace both Laffers and Grabban and who might challenge Big Dave.

Yea, I see what you're saying that is true. But if have the choice of Grabban or Afobe in a match day line up...

If Grabban is "apparently" worth more that 8m. Afobe for 12m is a total bargain.

Evidently the fee for Afobe could 'rise' to £10M. So we're not prepared to invest that sort of money on one of English football's brightest young talents, yet we are about to spend similar money on a Scotsman in the twilight of his career? **** me, am I really the only one who thinks this is folly? <doh>

Absolutely not... its totally bonkers! IF, that is, Bournmouth actually offered such a fee for Grabban and we had a chance of getting Afobe instead.

I like the idea of getting Naismith... but i shouldnt think he will get us too many goals. We need to sign an out and out Striker who can compete with Mbokani

Yea, Naismith is not my out and out striker Choice. I want him in our squad. I want Afobe or Haller. But Looks like we aren't prepared to meet the market value of quality players.

Bloody frustrating give we have players we clearly dont want on our books! Its obvious our squad isnt strong enough on todays display. One or two injuries and we are knackered! Really hoped we would invest and go for it this window. I knkw prices are inflated in Jan but we failedto do the right business in the summer so need to spend a bit now!

Still a few weeks of the window to go mind, but each game that passes might be an opportunity lost. Hope the players we missed today keep their form up for the next Prem game!

Edit - Good comment from early this afternoon Dave about 'seeing grown men cry etc!!!' (I was at the game and my internet connection was pretty dire, so couldn't reply earlier)
