Thought I'd give this a bump. Anyone's opinion now changed? I'm personally still in the same boat of thinking we need a couple. Although I wouldn't be against bringing in three. Initially I wanted two CMs. Now I want one CM, then one AM who can play up top like Son/ Alli and then ideally a new RB, although the latter won't happen, at least not this window while we still have three at the club.
If I could pick based on realistic options, I'd like Rabiot, Watkins and Wan-Bissaka. My dream choice of CM would've been Frenkie de Jong or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic but de Jong is joining Barca in the summer while I don't think we have the dough for SMS.
Nope same opinion. Definitely a CM needed in this window at the very least. Anything else is a bonus. Seeing as Llorente is pointless (not necessarily all his fault, as we don’t play to his strengths either), another striker on loan wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Lots more to do in the summer though. The momentum needs to start early. Shift players quicker, even if we have to take a hit. Then focus on the ones we want to bring in and have enough time to do so.
One thing to consider: if a player can't be signed now, that's no reason to not get a deal in place. Case in point, with Genk nine points clear at the top of the Belgian league they won't be selling Sander Berge this month, but that's absolutely no reason to not negotiate for a summer move - and if we've got to spend £100m in February/March to secure (to pick two names out of a hat) Berge & Ndombele, better do it then at the risk of either having to pay even more in the summer or pay a lot less while one or both of them heads elsewhere
Sorry, are you seriously suggesting that Levy would negotiate a deal well in advance to bring players in later this year, over running the clock down to try to broker a cut price deal in the summer? What was in your cornflakes this morning?
One swallow does not a summer make EDIT: I think we did that with Alli as well. If he brings in another of that quality, I'll let it slide
Sandro's another example, as he was signed in March but the deal said he'd remain with Internacional until their Copa Libertadores campaign finished...so of course they went on to win the bloody thing, meaning we had to wait the best part of six months before he arrived
