I think the other poster is asking why can Southampton attempt to sign an unattached player and we can not. We do not have a full quota and neither do Southampton. Your response seems to suggest that we must name another contracted player to fill the void. Therefore we must assume that Southampton do not have any contracted players who are not already in the named squad. Is this correct.
I don't understand why, if we have to name a full quota of contracted players, we didn't? Surely we cant turnaround and say "Well, we're trying to appeal a signing so we'll leave a gap in case it works". If the rule is you have to name up to 25 contracted players after the window closed if you have them, then why didn't we? And now what - do we have to put a player back in again to make up the 25 or can we sign another player?
Where's the unlike button when you Need it ha ha...and even the ****ing Number plate says pink..almost!!
You don't have to name 25 players, you can name as few as 18 players if you like, the number 25 is just the upper limit of players you can name.
I was looking at this yesterday and I wasn't able to find a definitive set of rules covering all eventualities, but if Southampton are about to sign a free agent, then it must be possible. Their situation is no different to ours, they've got a couple of players in their mid 20's that they haven't named in their squad. It's a bit academic, as I don't think we're looking at any free agents, but I suspect we could sign one if we wanted.
Its not really academic. The whole discussion - in which some people have been pretty uppity - was about if it's possible, not whether we would do it. Andas you say, if Saints haven't named all their senior pros in their squad then what more evidence do we need that it's permitted to do this?
I think we could do with a free centre half if there's one available? Dawson and Davies seem to be picking up injuries regularly and we're down to the bare bones. Whilst we could drop Thud in at the back, I wouldn't want to lose him from midfield at the moment - he's been outstanding.
Someone to sit on the bench and only play in emergencies? Someone who is happy to do this and not cause trouble behind the scenes when not picked? Is Alex Bruce free?
Josh Clackstone has made the bench a few times this season, but we just shipped him out on loan to Notts Counts, so I doubt we're looking to use anyone from the U23's.
Yes I'm at the Citroen/DS main dealership in Hull BMB. Now I'm going to have to google those early DS's. That's interesting, which business is it?
The early DS 21 convertible was a fantastic car (a mint one of these can cost well over £100k)... please log in to view this image
I tried to have a quick look to. Squad rules don't seem to be in the PL handbook and googling just throws up hundreds of results about the homegrown rule.
