I did. It was disgraceful. He would be one of a very small minority of footballers with that mentality. Most loanees are out to impress, to the club they are loaned to, or to prove to their parent club that they are worth giving a chance, or to third party clubs by putting themselves in the shop window. Of course, there are the "last pay-day" players who may show less endeavour.
Yeah I was ignoring injuries in my head and just looking at the squad Italian lad should be at least as good as Jake in defence Reasonable squad now, but poorer starting 11
Never usually post but seem to remember someone asking for a list of the squad earlier - I'd knocked this up on my phone to keep track: 1. 2. Moses Odubajo (ENG) [injured for season] 3. Andrew Robertson (SCO) 4. 5. Harry Maguire (ENG) 6. Curtis Davies (ENG) [injured] 7. David Meyler (IRE) 8. Tom Huddlestone (ENG) 9. Abel Hernández (URU) 10. Alfred N'Diaye (SEN) [on loan from Villarreal] 11. Sam Clucas (ENG) 12. Dušan Kuciak (SVK) 13. Andrea Ranocchia (ITA) [on loan from Inter Milan] 14. Omar Elabdellaoui (NOR) [on loan from Olympiacos] 15. Shaun Maloney (SCO) 16. Eldin Jakupović (SWI) 17. Kamil Grosicki (POL) 18. Dieumerci Mbokani (CON) [on loan from Dynamo Kyiv] 19. One thing that is guaranteed is no more 3 at the back If we are going down, we are going down running at them, trying to out score them - that should make us fun to watch
Not sure if you're on the wind up, but considering we haven't sold or loaned any defenders who have played for us this season I can't possibly see how this is true.
Only a week ago you were declaring us to have another centre half as Bruce was now fit. Just over a week ago we had Daws, Davies, H & Jake available to play & Bruce almost there. We now have Daws H & Ranocchia. Davies is out for 2 months. If injuries are managed properly they usually heal. Players break down again when they are rushed back early. Players are usually rushed back early because there is inadequate cover. There's inadequate cover because of a failed transfer policy. We shouldn't have sold Jake. We certainly shouldn't have moved Bruce on in the knowledge that Davies is out for 2 months & no cover was incoming.
Agree with this. We've added players to the squad, but strengthened? Not sure, most unproven at PL level. I'm sure some will surpass expectations in the same way some will fail to meet expectations. I'd have liked a couple of wild card signings from the English league - like Bogle. I think Joyce has made a very astute signing in Bogle. Centre half is my primary concern with scant cover for those positions. It was lunacy sending Bruce on loan and only having 3 players for 2 positions. Bad set of results for us tonight with Palace and Swansea both winning.
No joke. Loans in our position are the best strategy. Most loanees are likely wanting to prove a point (see post #8274). You see that differently apparently with your statements. In our position at the moment, any potential permanent signing wants to be and remain in the PL, but would be offered contracts with relegation clauses reducing their salaries. A reasonably high chance of that scenario happening given our league position & unstable management. That is not likely to attract many "high" quality PL, Championship or foreign players, unless they are offered on loan, already being in a precarious position with their parent clubs. Our owners are reluctant to shell out too much money on permanent signings on long term contracts. In fact, they have shed a few in the last week or so. In my opinion.
So you don't think players who are stuck here would be more motivated than players who will return to Inter, villareal, olympiakos, and Liverpool? I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.
I would suggest the ones who are already "stuck here" are already motivated, maybe even feel more "comfortable" with their situation. The ones who are (semi) rejected from Inter, Villareal etc have a high degree of motivation to re-energize to prove their worth in order to resurrect their careers (with the club they are loaned to, with their parent club ( look, see what I have achieved) or with other clubs in the same league as the club they are loaned to. I would suggest both categories you define are equally motivated as professional footballers with the short career ahead of them to establish a secure financial life for their families. I would even go so far as to suggest those loanees have more at stake to "put out". We obviously do differ on our view of human nature.
It's your opinion, I disagree. It's not just about individual playets, but also the balance and depth of the team. Snodgrass wanted to go, what part of that is difficult to come to terms with? This happens at all football clubs, it was made worse by poor summer business and even worse by **** historic Bruce business. Time to move on and see what Silva can do.
well a very productive window 7 in hopefully all gel quick and show the same desire and fight niasse has so far i trust silva to get the best out of them onwards and upwards
