It's just ****ing stupid. There's no career progression for him, even if Burnley manage to stay up, their best players will be poached and they'll drop the season after, just like we usually do. It wouldn't surprise me if he rejected the move, would Burnley offer better wages than we would anyway?
We're not-a selling (the) club. We're going to cash in on our best assets and then run it as a profitable business in the championship with a wage bill of £5m.
It would be mad for him to go there. Don't get me wrong Burnley are a decent football club but he is way, way above them, and us.
As long as "this guy" doesn't bolt if/when we sell more players. At least it does sound like we're bringing some in which might appease him.
Well, I've already booked a date with a bird to go see Trainspotting 2 tomorrow night so I'll miss all the "fun"
Err...Zola? If Robertson goes, we will be left with, by my count 9 fit senior non-loanee outfield players Elmo Dawson Harry Meyler Evandro Huddlestone Clucas Diomande Hernandez I think I must have missed someone somewhere because I cannot believe that is it. Tymon I wasn't counting because he is not even on a pro-contract as far as I'm aware, and with 2 career starts is hardly senior...similar goes for the other youngsters. Weir- hasn't started a league game ever Bruce- still not fully fit but will be back in Feb sometime maybe The others, Davies, Henriksen, Mason are all months away so are a write off for this season basically Now, I don't want to be pessimistic or a 'panty wetter' with a whole 23 hours of the transfer window left, and I will be the first to hold my hand up if we spend £30m tomorrow, but that looks a lot more like asset stripping than rebuilding a squad to me. It is ****ing embarrassing.
If we stay up then it's not as bigger achievement but just as impressive as Leicester winning the league. If you broke it down to the fundamentals and explained it to a non football fan, then it would seem like intentional sabotage. My only glimmer of hope is that Silva is a miracle worker but he would have needed to be even with Livermore and Snodgrass and probably Robertson. 1a. Establish a team that is under strength and create a situation of disarray. 1. Sell best players. 2. Sell them for less than they are worth. 3. Sell them towards the end of the transfer window. 4. Sell them with no immediate replacements lined up. 5. Sell them to rivals of a similar stature. 6. Reduce wage bill. 7. Replace players with loans who at the end of the season will leave if relegated. 8. Replace them with potentially questionable loans. 9. Keep reducing amount of permanent players. 10. Destroy any remaining squad harmony. 11. Show interest in unsigned player. 12. Linked with or buy bargain basement players. 13. Bring in players with no experience of the league. 14. Create bade atmosphere forcing players to want to leave. 15. Treat players with disrespect. 16. Not tie up contracts of players. 17. Sully the reputation of the club on a worldwide stage. 18. Undo years of squad building. 19. Allow ridiculous buy out clauses in contracts. 20. Say completely contradictory things. 21. Leave most business until the last minute. 22. Sell the British core of players. 23. Set the future of the club up for doom if relegated. 24. Money from the club disappearing. 25. Blame the fans for everything. I was one of the last people to turn on Ehab and got a lot of stick for it. In all other walks of life I am an optimist but this doesn't look great. I want to be wrong and will happily admit it tomorrow if we see some signs of sanity from the owners.
Absolutely correct. Like him or not, Brucie worked hard on building a squad which with a few additions could well have become established in the Premier League. Had they not suffered horrendously through injuries in the relegation season, we could well be there now, though that that would be assuming we had a new owner. In developing a club or any business, you build good foundations so when things go wrong, you can ride it. As you have said this has been dismantled. Basically asset stripping. Impressive though he is, Marco is not the Messiah (in fact he's a very naughty boy). He's relatively new to management, and doesn't know the premier league. He's brought in a lot of new players who supposedly 'have a lot to prove'. Why? Because they have ****ed up their careers. He'll do well to get half of them performing. And he has no revolutionary magic system that he is buying players to fit into.
Not to derail a football transfer thread, but baseball is all about strategy from the signings to the actual playing, but maybe I should start an off topic thread.
aye but i can't see how we will score enough goals while conceding less and picking enough points to pass 3 teams
We must just get all those "blow your socks off" signings this window. No, not Bailey or Milivojevic. I'm talking about all those signings you've dreamed of. We might be signing Vieri, Campbell, Negrado, Windass again and Bent.
As you yourself have acknowledged, we have a number of 'unfit' senior players. You've also forgotten Maloney. And not sure why keepers don't count. You say you don't want to be pesimisstic or a panty wetter but you've basically compiled an (incomplete) list of our players which has been filtered by factors to appear as minimal as possible. Why stop there? Why not compile a list of all our fit, British, right sided players whose names start with J?
Fact we are 3-1 to stay up despite only being 2 points off 17th would indicate most people agree with you, although they are all panty-wetters obviously.
