I missed this reply earlier. Yes money and player costs in the league have risen considerably but Jake is now a fair bit older and never really kicked on and improved a lot since he arrived. Part of the premium we paid was for his youthful(ish) potential, now we know he's peaked more or less.
Alex Bruce had some decent games for us, he played a blinder against Liverpool. But then so did Richard Pacquette in the FA Cup for Havant and Waterlooville. It doesn't make him a Premier League standard player. In fact he's had 19 different clubs since then and 14 before that. That's got to be some kind of record? Surely beating Trevor Benjamin as most journeyman player ever?
In essence it was. Yours are the ones making the most bizzare statements and judging against logic with weak argument. I respond to others, but usually my posts to you are in response.
I'm not one who was bothered about him being in the team but it was he who gave away an incredibly silly foul at the edge of our box to hand Arsenal the momentum. Yes he was good the rest of the time but his **** up was a pivotal moment in that match. As such he can hardly be regarded as immense.
He's a decent back up who's always been happy to accept his place as back up. Not many like that about.
I already said in this thread somewhere that André André is not what we need. He's pretty similar to Evandro, plays center midfield or a bit in the right but he definetly isn't a winger by all means. I wouldn't want him for free and i suspect Marco thinks the same even tough the newspaper ojogo is saying city and Sunderland want him.
I agree with you. It's no longer about what players are worth. You only have to look at Pogba, no way is he worth 90m, however it was paid. In our situation, with a competent performer who played for the shirt, who was a British backbone of our team, who could play in more than one position, with a threadbare squad, he was worth more, no doubt about it. We just have to see what comes out of it, do we get replacement players, more than one, or do we get nothing? Only time will tell, but it's not a move I would have sanctioned.
I remember us beating Liverpool at the KC and Bruce Jr put Suarez in his pocket for 90 mins! I'm not saying he's amazing but he's far from the worst player we've had! And considering most on here are fixated with the 'but he gives 100% approach to players' I'm surprised they don't call him god because regardless of his weaknesses he always gives 100%
There are apparently two deals to be announced tomorrow, one is almost certainly Omar, the other is probably a winger, which I would guess is Joao Teixeira on loan. He played at Brighton (on loan from Liverpool, came through their youth academy) a couple of seasons back and was their young player of the year and has been made available for loan by Porto. He'd also count as home grown as he spent 3 years in the Liverpool academy.
Everybody always says this like it's a defining marker of his quality, if he was that good he'd have kept the other 19 team's centre halves in his pocket as well. He gave a 100%, but so he should, he's a professional footballer. It was just unfortunate that his 100% was about 50% of Davies, Dawson and Maguire
On that basis why would players come here when we are favourites to go down and only have a manager on a 6 month contract, and might even change ownership? It makes more sense to keep players for the fight for survival while under a long enough contract. and while they are still playing well for us.
I don't know why all talk gets stuck in the transfer thread, I wish more threads were encouraged here, for a start you could separate incoming and outgoing perhaps.
During the international break, it's nothing but off topic threads about *shudder* cycling and (perhaps worse) cricket. Threads aren't usually separated in January, there isn't usually enough action to warrant it. You'll notice that most of the signings we make have never played in the Premier League. Even at a side in the relegation zone, if you play well enough you'll get spotted and go somewhere else. That's what most of these lads will be thinking, they won't be joining us because we're Hull City, they're coming to showcase their talents. If it keeps us up, then fine.
