Only the incredibly over optimistic will think that the whole thing will click into place and United will compete for the title in the next few months. The reality is that all these things take time and there will be stumbles and set backs along the way. LVG himself said that it will take him months to get a team going. I know that lots of stuff in the old days are not relevant to todays game but the great man SAF himself took years to get HIS team sorted. LVG wont get the same time. Defenders more than most need time to settle and know each other in the back line. I hope that one lesson that he has learnt is that this United team is not your "normal" team and that at 30 minutes before the end a game is not won even with a 2 or 3 goal lead. And just do not give the opposition any momentum. And yes like Matth i believe that he knows what he is doing.
Sakho is France 2nd choice defender and Lovren/Skrtel is Croatia/Slovenia best defender. Comparing that to Evans, Jones, Rojo and Blackett Only difference between LFC defence and Chelsea and City, is that they have Matic and Fernando etc.
Well LFC defence is sh!t at the moment, but when comparing individuals, LFC have the better names on the team sheet. However, what makes United and LFC defence the same, is that United has a much better goalie and Blind has more legs than Gerrard.
The problem is, that's the approach we've had for the last 4 years. Our defence has got worse over the years and we've set up to protect that defence. As a result we've been dire to watch. I can imagine how we'd set up to protect that back line. It wouldn't add quality, it would just be a numbers exercise with more **** players defending a **** back line. It's what we've been doing and that would be going backwards. I would rather we don't change our attacking play, it's pleasing on the eye and gives us half a chance of getting the result. In short, I'd rather we burn in a blaze, than go out with a whimper. I think the reality is we just have to suffer it out and LVG has to work with the defence he has until the transfer window. We won't be the only ones either I believe, we're in good company. Should be interesting...
Far too much being made of our defence. Some clearly havent checked the goals against column. Weve let in 8. As have liverpool. Chelsea have let in 7. Arsenal and spurs 6. Everton have let in 13. I await the many excuses that follow.
And 5 of them were in one bad game UIR, after the first 4 games we had the joint second best defence in the division
